Suggestion for pots/capacitor for Black Winters - Ibanez

Hello,

I have a lower end Ibanez RG with Black Winters.

Not even sure what the pots are.

What is recommended for Black Winters?

Brand and k?

I have read some suggestions that 250k would be better to tame the highs.

also is the .47uf orange suppose to be used as a capacitor?

I also still have the stock middle pickup... probably should be replaced. Is the Hot Rails still sound Strat like on its own? Just more beefy? It may give me more versatility for tone... Even though it kind of seems contradictory.

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks!

the hot rails doesnt sound very stratty at all. if you like your current middle pup there is no reason to change it, if you dont, then what are you looking for tonally?

as far as pots and caps, i assume it probably has 500k pots which is what id suggest. if its overly bright then 250k will tame the high end. a .047 cap is a fine value and orange drops are fine caps.

what is it you dont like about what you have now?

Is there a name brand Pot or are they all pretty good.

It's not what I don't like... It's what I could have. The Middle position is still stock.

I'm not a expert by any means... so forgive me if I sound like an idiot.

I was just thinking rather than switching out guitars, or bring 2... If I could get a middle pick up to achieve a different more classic hotter strat or 59 tone it may be with while.

Id Just wire it separately from the Black Winters... Unless they'd happen to blend nicely, which I doubt.

You'll get a hot strat sound if you stick a quarter pound in the middle. It probably would even sound good parallel with your black winters if you split them. I haven't noticed a difference between pot brands. If you want it darker, get 250, if you like it how it is, stick with the 500s.

CTS are built most reliably and last for a long number of turns. Alphas are fine and have a reasonable service life, though I haven't pounded on an Alpha as I've only used a couple sets of them. I tend to use CTS. You can bust a CTS but you have to do something abusive like bang it head on, or jamming a knob on it that doesn't fit, or overheat it badly with a solder iron.

Depends on the size of the cavity to a degree, and then what's all going into it.
I like the 500 CTS/D custom-tapers. I hate small-size pots.
