Re: super distortion in mahogany?

Alot of classic rock was made using Super Distortion in Les Pauls. I have three in an Epi Ace Frehley Lp and sounds great.. Figure the Sg is thinner and has a thinner and less bassy sound than an LP, so should work ok..

it would sound good, sgs are brighter than les pauls, but the super will still sound good i think

I think it would sound really good....nice and punchy with that short scale too.

it'll sound great, if you want an idea of how it sounds in a mahogany axe then you should try out the ace frehley siganture epiphone les paul. it sounds great!

I had a Dimarzio Super Distortion in an all mahogany PRS (Santana SE). I went with it since it's what Tom Scholz from Boston uses. The bass WILL NOT be muddy. That pickup has allen head pole pieces and the bass will be tight/not muddy or loose. The sound will be compressed to some extent and hot/distorted. If you expect to roll any volume off and have it clean up, it won't. It's has a distorted sound even on a clean channel. If you're not after that you will probably like it.

I ended up putting in a PRS Dragon II (what PRS put in their Standard 22 that is all mahogany) and my search was over. The best sounding pickup for an all mahogany guitar in my opinion. The Super Distortion was just too hot for me (but I'm a VH/classic rocker :-)

Good luck
Chris
