Super Switch Questions?

So Hey Folks,
I don't post here often, but could sure use some extra eyes & brains to go over my Super Switch diagram to make sure I've got it right for what I want to accomplish on my Strat with three single coils. The middle pup is reversed magnetic polarity and I wire it in reverse manner, IE: negative as positive & positive as negative. Here's a list of what I hope to end up with:

#1) Bridge only, Tone #2
#2) Bridge & Middle in parallel, out of phase, Tone #2
#3) Middle only, no Tone
#4) Bridge & Middle in series, out of phase, Tone #2
#5) Neck only, Tone #1

I've gone over this, six ways to Sunday and it seems all OK, but could sure use another set of eyes and neurons to make sure I haven't missed anything!
Thanks Folks,
Gene

Hi “The Ballz” and welcome to the forum. Yeah, I see you’ve been a member for a year-and-a-half, but it’s also your first post, so...

Your diagram looks good to me as long as I make one assumption, that this jumper...

...is connected to 1, 2 and 3 (not just 1 & 3). I think it probably IS, but it was worth asking about (if it’s not, it should be [emoji6]).

Otherwise it looks great! [emoji1303]

Re: Super Switch Questions?

Thanks BriGuy,
Yeah 1, 2 and 3, though I realize that the connection to 1 is not really necessary, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to keep that Middle pup grounded, even when not in use. Now that I look again, I guess if I want it to be consistent, that 1, 2, 3 jumper should also connect to the #5 lug of pole #3?
Thanks Again For The Reply,
Gene

I'm giving the OP a thumbs up simply for his username.

Re: Super Switch Questions?

Something else you need to clarify: Do you actually want the middle pup to be "out-of-phase" with the bridge? Which will result in a weak, tinny, lifeless sound? Or do you mean, the "normal" RW/RP quack of a Stratocaster? So many people misunderstand the RW/RP acronym.

"The Ballzz" became my nickname fairly early on, (40+ years ago) when I started playing Les Pauls in a band called "ON TEN" through a Blackface Showman and/or 100 watt Marshall Super Bass through greenback 4x12 cabs (sometimes together) and generally "CRANKED" but using a very light picking technique. Never a foot/stomp/effect/pedal thingie, except for a wah. The rich harmonic content and overtones is absolutely amazing, but when I get "frisky" and/or want to STING, I can kill small pets and children at 20 paces! :firing: This name has stuck with me, as has my playing style, though now I do it through very low wattage amps!

Thanx 4 Noticing!

You make a good point, sir! I'm not sure that my use of the "out of phase" terminology is strictly correct, but to clarify:

A) The pickup set in question here is a "Fender Custom Shop 69" set for a Stratocaster.
B) All three pups are wound the same direction and originally had all three with the same magnetic polarity.
C) I used a technique, detailed on another site, to reverse/flip the magnetic polarity of the middle pup.
D) Through experimentation, I found the most "pleasing to me" quack tones of positions #2 & #4, "parallel" configurations, with the middle pup leads reversed. I did not experience thin or reduced volume with the leads in either direction, but found the best "spank" when reversed. I've also seen it explained (not sure how correct this is) that often times when a pup is considered "reverse wound" it is not actually truly such, but has simply had the choice of which end of the wind to be "called/considered" hot/positive to be reversed. Not sure of this is truly "out of phase" or not?
E) Where my current quandary comes into play is whether the wiring of that bridge and middle pup "in series" should be positive of one to the negative of the other "or" positive of one to the positive of the other would be most appropriate. I do want to retain the #2 position of bridge and middle in parallel, as they currently are. While I realize that experimentation will give me definitive answers, it sure is nice to do a job right the first time and not have to "re-do" the operation!
