There are 6 tabs on the switch connected to the pot.

I'm in "casual mode" at this moment, so I'll get more technical later, but basically, you have a "common" terminal that connects to five lugs sequentially, x4. That is, four occurences of that.

Like I said, I'll cover details later.

right! when pushed, you have either the top 4 or the bottom 4 connected- i think that is right!
