Superior drummer feedback

I was pleasantly surprised at the response I got last time I posted my music here, so I'm back! I'm looking for some feedback on my superior drummer sounds in this clip. I've been using presets and editing them for a while, and this time I tried making my own kit and processing it from scratch. This is definitely not a final mix, and it's an mp3 so excuse the compression. I'll probably post another clip down the road when I record the guitars and bass for real.

Re: Superior drummer feedback

Had to jump on that volume knob, track's got some kick. Nice job. Guitars could use a bit more low mid.

Re: Superior drummer feedback

Hey thanks for listening, I remember you from the last thing I posted ^_^ Guitars will be better once I finish the song. I use POD software to record guitars while I'm writing and experimenting, but I record my real amp when I'm ready to track the final thing. The POD tones need lots of work to sit in the mix right so I didn't spend time on that.

Re: Superior drummer feedback

I like the snare. The kick has enough meat to propel things, but I'd add a little "bite".

The guitars are kind of generic-sounding tone wise, so yeah, I'd love to hear the finished product.

+1 More force from the low end.

The POD guitar sounds are too "polite". There is nothing about the guitar sounds that declare, "this is a Stratocaster" or, "this is a Gretsch" or whatever other brand. Of course, this may have been your aim.

Re: Superior drummer feedback

I think it sounds great. The bass drum is right in the pocket frequency wise but I'd add just a little snap to it. Definitely a great job for building the drum tack from scratch!

Re: Superior drummer feedback

Thanks guys! I'll be sure to post an update with a more final mix. I'll be re-recording the guitars through my Orange Rockerverb at some point. Can't wait.

Re: Superior drummer feedback

In regards to the OP. Drums sound good, but those hats are ****ing annoying. Crank down the velocity on those kits and maybe sit the cymbals farther back in the mix, those always sound the most artificial. Also, make sure every hit isnt at 127, for the first part it could be much more dynamic. Sounds good though!

Bleh, listening again you're right, the hi hat is pretty bad in the first clip. I think it's actually the way I bounced it out. I just went back and realized I bounced it as a pretty low quality mp3 and the hats in the original sound significantly better. I still need to mess with velocity and maybe the cymbal levels too. Didn't want to take the time to fine-tune that stuff until the song was done. Thanks for the honest response :)

Re: Superior drummer feedback

I actually just posted this elsewhere on the forum, but I'll post it here too. I covered a Cloudkicker song and it's the same SD kit, but it's a much higher quality mp3 this time. Hi hat sounds much better here I think. Still tweaks to be made, but it's the same kit in a different context.
