HI,

Suppose you stumble upon a magnet, how would you determine what kind it is? How can you tell if it's ceramic, or type of alnico? HOw would you determine strength of the mag?

thanks,

Ceramic is normally very dark and almost black in color...(The ones I've seen)Alnico 2,3,4,and 5 are all pretty close(Shiny and silver)Guess you'd need a gauss checker from there?

Scroll to the bottom of my tutorial and you can see a few magnets shown..There is some slight color differences..

Re: Suppose you find a mystery magnet?

Thanks,

Great tuturial. I just diassembled, rewired, mag flipped, wax potted a set of pickups from a Peavey. They were from an old Impact and the pickup were wired very weird and the coils were oriented differently from neck to bridge. I had toi figure out on paper what I needed the coils, wiring, and mag polarity to be before I rewired them. I came up with a cool little graphic to figure it out. When I get a chance, I'll post it.
