Surf Antiquity neck sound clip - Jazzy piano tone + big ambient Fender clean

Wrote this piece recently and I'm really pleased how it turned out.

Had a good time with my new G10 greenback speaker for a more mid focused and less spikey tone.

I was going for a lazy jazzy island theme. This piece called for lots of vibrato soaked retro ambience... I wanted maximum detail with maximum ambience.

Beautiful sound with the just the right blend of glass, chime, big piano lows, neatly rounded highs and a strong midrange presence.

LOVE the Antiquity Surf set.

It was my first Father's Day and I wanted to commemorate it by dedicating a piece of music to my daughter. She loves it!!!

That sounds very nice. The Ant IIs are definitely very expressive. Nice, warm, moody tone.

Thank you very Much DreX.

I've had the pickups in the guitar since last Winter but wanted to get a set of locking tuners before I did any more recordings. The whammy bar is constantly used to get just the right vibrato with this R&B/Soul playing style so I needed the new tuners something awful to do this.

I personally think it's one of the most beautiful tones I've ever heard. : )

Nice. I have the Texas Hots in a couple of guitars, which I love, but these sound SO different. I'd agree: that's a beautiful Strat tone. I may have to think about getting some of these.

Amazing to think of these guitars, designed 60 years ago, can be used for so many types of music and not just rock and roll.

Lovely tone matey.
What's the difference between the Surfer and Texas Hots ?
The specs are identical on the Duncan site.

AFAIK, the only difference is the magnets, A2 versus degaussed A5 pole pieces. It makes a significant difference in tone and feel, though. The Ant I's are darker, more compressed, have a softer attack. I have both sets in two different strats now. I'd describe the Ant I's as being sleepy and mellow, and the Ant II as being awake and perky. I think the Ant I's would complement zenmindbeginner's song/musical style nicely.

It doesn't mention the magnet type on the Duncan site !

I have a Texas Antiquity set I bought used one at a time... one of them doesn't have the cover and my Fender covers don't line-up properly with the poles. I took out the Fender Texas Specials to install the Texas Ants but was missing a cover so the guitar stayed empty for a few weeks. That's how it got a set of Surf Antiquities... it was originally supposed to have Texas Hots. I'd feel like an idiot begging SD for an aged Antiquity cover... probably will have to happen some time though, the set is worthless with only two covers.

I built that guitar from all USA Fender parts (except for the body which is an old StewMac body from 1993), did all of the assembly myself, did the vintage tint with nitro and set it up & maintain it myself.

I call it my "Dream Strat" since it was in my mind before I brought it forth into reality.

Yes! Nice tone man. I'm loving my surfers.

Thanks Andrew!

You must be psychic because the Texas Ants were my original intention... probably would have worked a bit better for this piece even though the Surfs sound great... good ear DreX!

I have a magnetometer, I can post pics of how the Ant I and Ant II measure, if anyone is curious to know.

I'd love to see the readings... that magnetometer is such a great way to really get inside of a pickup design. It's an important piece of data along with wire gauge, insulation or lack of, coil shape, number of turns, magnet type and magnet size.

I had no idea they were affordable and easy to operate. You've got a lot of great ideas DreX, your curiosity and analytical mindset are invaluable assets for a tone hound.
