Surprised with the Big Muff Tone Wicker

Although I still long for my BAT LSTR fuzz that I was forced to sell, I'm actually pretty happy with the Big Muff with tone wicker I picked up. I know new Big Muff's seem to get mixed reviews compared to the older models and the various clones that are out there, but I'm liking it. I miss the massive gain/fuzz of the LSTR, but with the option of bypassing the tone and the tone wicker it's pretty versatile. I really should be investing in a new amp, but I just can't kick the need for fuzz.
It's fairly quiet even with the crappy radio shack 9vt adaptor I'm using, the LSTR didn't seem to get along with it, and seems to get along with my Vox valvetronix better also. Better than I expected and should satisfy my need for fuzz for the time being.

Hey, that sounds great. I got a standard EXH Big Muff Pi that I want to replace on account of it being about as big as a medium-size bathtub.
Haven't had a chance to try out the Tonewicker model yet, but I've checked out the PGS demo of it and it seems to sound about as my standard one when the tone's kicked in.
Cheers for the review! I'll be trying to try one myself asap.

I had one of these pedals for about a week before I realized that fuzz just isn't my thing. But I heard almost exactly the same tones as I hear on Smashing Pumpkins and Corrosion of Conformity records. It really does the tone it's designed to do very, very well.

that would be the big muff I would get if I were gonna do it, congrats@!

I use one as well, and with the tone off and the wicker on it sounds huge! :D

Re: Surprised with the Big Muff Tone Wicker

I want the options of the Tone Wicker on my Actual Vintage Nineties Big Muff Pi but I don't want to Destroy the Resale Value of the Pedal with all of the Extra Switches and Crap.

Do You (yes You) think the same tricks could be accomplished with Push-Pull Pots? Come to think of it that would Devalue the Pedal too.

Nevermind.

The Wicker and Tone Bypass mods are out there, but as they're not too expensive, it might just be better to buy a new one...

Re: Surprised with the Big Muff Tone Wicker

I have a Danelectro Fish n Chips on the way. It's dirt cheap and I'm eager to see what It can add to the setup. I can get a decent Weezer Blue Album tone out of BMP with some tweaking. I can get in the ballpark of the early Smashing pumpkin's tone too, but thought the LSTR did a better job as far as the SP stuff was concerned. I'm not really trying to cop a particular tone though. My fav setting so far is Tone on, wicker on, sustain at about 2-3 O'clock and tone about 1 or 2 O'Clock. The Vox tends to be bassy at lower volumes so the wicker is a welcome option.
