Svetlana tube question - Plz help!

My Marshall TSL602 stopped working on me yesterday. The sound started to crackle and fizzle out. I looked at the tubes and one was barely lit and the other was glowing red hot. The amp quit eventually quit after a few minutes. Does this mean my tube are dead? I think it also blew the HT fuse.

Anyways, I was shopping for new tubes and was thinking about getting these Svetlana tubes. What are your experiences with these tubes?

They also come in blue, breen and red options. Anyone know the difference or recommend an option for my amp?

I'm also open to any other tube suggestions too.

Thanks!

Re: Svetlana tube question - Plz help!

save youreself a LL"OOOOTTTTTTTT of money, and DO NOT buy tubes from musicians friends and/or guitar center. you can get them for 1/2 as much on places like www.thetubestore.com or www.tubedepot.com or www.eurotubes.com (<- only JJ/Tesla)

what kind of tone modification do you want on youre amp, like warmer, tighter, or about the same? https://ssl.eurotubes.com/cart/index.php?page=view_products&category_id=9&sub_category_id=46 as you can see has a standard retube kit which will keep it like it is currently, but still a bit warmer because JJ's do that, or they have a high-gain option which boosts the gain.

Glowing red tubes is very bad, you should immediately shutdown your amp before it causes any problems. Then get a amp tech to check your amp out. Here's another good dealer http://www.dougstubes.com/.

Thanks for your reply,

I guess I'm hoping to get a slightly warmer and tighter tone with more break-up. I mostly play hard rock/metal like metallica, RATM, Zeppelin, AC/DC, Green Day, etc.

Re: Svetlana tube question - Plz help!

you can just email the guys at eurotube and they will find some good combination for you.

Thanks for the info guys.

How potentially bad is it if I drop in new tubes without getting my amp re-biased?

Very bad. Chances are that there may be a component problem in there that made it go severely off-bias like that. It happened to my amp recently, only the power transformer got a short in it and fried. The tubes glowed red hot, then the amp shut down when the mains fuse blew. Get it in the shop before replacing the tubes, and have them check the power tranny and other components in the power amp.

I will say the Svetlana's (New Sensor owned) are really nice tubes. I like their EL34's a lot. Haven't tried the Winged "C"s yet.

Re: Svetlana tube question - Plz help!

yeah bring it to a shop before doing the tube change. if you have a warranty on the marshall, call them and ask if you can bring it into a local shop for fixing and have them take care of the payment, theyd usually say yes. i dont know much about how nice marshall is though.

Re: Svetlana tube question - Plz help!

It sounds like the bias may have drifted off recently, and your tubes are frying as a result. Or, they're just old and failed. Either way, don't put new tubes in without immediately adjusting the bias, or you might turn the plates red on the new ones.

I recommend checking out all your options on my friend Todd's site. He's Ebay's biggest tube distributor, and is cheap with fast delivery.

Thanks for all the help guys.

I'm gonna check out the recommended sites for some new tubes and bring them and my amp to a tech at the same time for service...

If you wanna recommend some tubes for me to try out, I'd appreciate it!

Thanks!

Re: Svetlana tube question - Plz help!

So anyone wanna comment on how to Bias an amp if it has external bias controls?
