Hi.
I'm playing my LP Studio Swamp Ash through a Mesa/Boogie Subway Blues amp.
The amp is really bright and middy (think a miny Marshall JCM-800 stack). I've recorded a lot with the amp and know it is THE thing for me. I'm used to play it with a Schecter C-1 Classic (JB/Jazz), so the guitar is usually quite balanced and the overdrive sounds I get on record are full, rich and solid.
I love my LP (gibson 498T / 490R) for clean stuff, and mild to medium overdrive textures, where it really gets that vintage vibe when combined with an overdriven Class A amp. The problem is that when I put some real drive in it, the Amp plus the guitar's mids and highs turn to total mud. No definition and sustain at all. Sounds like a barfing dog. Through a full rackmount with a Marshall JMP-1 Preamp, no problem for the harder settings, but I can't move my whole rig for small club playing or studio.
I play every style of music, and need a pickup that would be able to give me about the same sound I already have, but that is able to respond well under heavier drive, so basicly a pickup with less mids, more drive, more definition, less barking (upper mid spike). The Duncan JB is great, but me LP is already super bright... so I don't think it would fit. I thought about the Custom Custom, or the Custom 5, but have NO IDEA how it would sound or if the combination would actually work.
Since I'm an active playing and gigging musician, I need a versatile setup, but I'm still using my Schecter as an all-around guitar, and would like to be able to take my LP to more gigs and use it for more than only blues, rockabilly, and pop rythm playing, and make it a real workhorse for lead playing.
Thanks for your advice.
