Swappin' the A5 for an A2 in a Jazz neck...

I know it would mellow out the top a little & maybe add some mids & change the bottom to a degree. In this case I think that's what I want since the Jazz neck is a little too 'plinky' for me in this one axe and I'm looking for something rounder.

So my question is, if I swapped the magnets around what would the Jazz neck sound closest to? I'm thinking either an Alnico II or Pearly Gates.

Yes?

No?

Anyone tried this before?

I've got all the pieces here & plan on doing the surgery sometime in the next week or so but I'm wondering what to expect.

Gracious,

I wouldnt doubt if it would be pretty much or the samething as an Alnico II pro!

There has been a great debate among the bros over whether this is an A2Pro or not. I hope this thread doesn't degenerate into one of those again.

Dig it.

This is actually the Jazz neck I got from you and stuck into the swamp ash PRS!

I love the clarity for chords, low notes and clean work but the top strings are just too bright coming off this paddle, especially while soloing. I have an older Jazz neck (mid '90's) in my Hamer Diablo which has a Floyd & a 7/8 alder Strat body and it sounds NOTHING like the PRS...the Hamer is rounder which has me totally flummoxed. I figured the Hamer with the smaller body & Floyd would be brighter but it isn't...it's smoother & thinner.

Interestingly enough, the Alnico II in the neck of my Paul is too dark & muddy...I might just swap the pickups around and see if that balances out both guitars.

i have a nickel covered a2 jazz in the neck of my tele. it sounds nothing close to a pearly gates and more towards the a2p but not exactly.

personally, changing the a5 to a2 in a jazz does not change it into an a2p. the lows and clarity are still there with slightly rolled back highs and bumped up mids. way fatter than a standard jazz neck but not as fat and round like an a2p.

Thanks for the insight!

That sounds like it's exactly what I'm after.
