Swapping EMG for AHB-1 HELP!?!?

Hi, I want to swap out my EMG-81 for a AHB-1 Blackout but here's the thing(s)...

1.) I've heard EMG and Blackouts have the exact same quick-connector is this true? I can just unplug the one and plug the other in and presto?

2.) I have a Schecter C-1 Hellraiser FR. It features an EMG-81TW and an EMG-89. These are both wired to be tapped/split by each of their respective push/pull volume pots. If I put the Blackout in that setup, will ANYTHING bad happen? Will it tap the Blackout?

Any help is appreciated! Thanx.

If/when you do it, post your thoughts here! It'd be interesting to see what you think of the Blackouts compared to EMGs.

Re: Swapping EMG for AHB-1 HELP!?!?

Its seems I've hit a speed bump...right before I ordered Blackouts I looked up my EMG set to be completely sure. And guess what, they do NOT have the usual 3 prong quick connect but instead have a 7 prong one. Now unless I can still connect it using just 3 of the seven I'll have to start soldering and junk. Grrrrrrr.

Re: Swapping EMG for AHB-1 HELP!?!?

As you said the 89 and 81 TW have the 7-prong connector and won't work with the 3-prong afaik. I'd get some quick connect wires or just hardwire the blackouts into the guitar just like with regulafr pups.

Re: Swapping EMG for AHB-1 HELP!?!?

The EMG's 7-prong connector is because of the extra pins for the split.

I can't really be sure since I don't know which pins do what but it may be possible to install the pickups using the old connect wires if EMG were kind enough to keep those 3 pins' relative position the same (i.e. those 3 pins are the 3 first/middle/last in the 7-prong connector)

Re: Swapping EMG for AHB-1 HELP!?!?

Crud...I looked up pics of the 7 prong connector. The regular one has white, red, black in that order. From what I can see, the 7 prong has red, white, "ground?shield?" (looks black), green, blue, orange. I don't know if that one wire is black or silver. Anyone think it'll work still? If not, I guess I'll have to pull out the solder unless an EMG tech responds to my email this century! Thanks for the help guys.

Well, sounds to me like it should work, but just to be sure, can you read schematics?
If so maybe you can trace where these leads end up to so as to figure out yourself which does what.

The ground should be the easiest of them all - If it ends up soldered to the back of a pot or sth then it's ground ;)

I've looked at the wiring diagrams...there not really helpful. Plus I just got an email from an EMG tech and he said I have to remove the 7 pin and put in a 3 pin. Bummer. Oh well. I'm buying Blackouts now! Thanx

Re: Swapping EMG for AHB-1 HELP!?!?

Well, if it's all the same just check the 7-pin just to make sure.

Anyway, shouldn't be much of a trouble anyway

Yeah, I know. I just got really excited to be able to simply swap them out. But whatever. Why aren't all pickups quick connect these days? Whats the hold-up?
