Swapping magnets in a Dimarzio. Are they glued?

I got a Super Distortion (my first Dimarzio) and want to put an A5 magnet in it .... but the darn thing won't budge! I've swapped plenty of magnets in Duncans, but no luck removing the Dimarzio. Are they glued in?

I dont think so. Take a hair dryer to it. It might just be waxed in really well. If you are swapping magnets, a hair dryer is good to have around anyway. It re-sets the wax when the magnet is installed in the pickup and thus helping to reduce or eliminate squeal..

and once you do please post clips or share your thoughts on the tone! i got a super D to help add some maiden-esque tone to my classic metal influenced riffs, but so far i'm not sure if its working as planned

I swapped magnets in a VPAF Hot and I had to use a screwdriver to kind of pry it up. It's stuck in there pretty well, but not well enough heh heh...

Thanks. I used a screwdriver too but could only get the edges up. I'll attack it with a hair dryer tonight and report back.

Well, I believe they are glued in. I had to take off the base plate the pry the magnet out and it's got a lot of plasticy goop around it that looks like hot glue. I put the A5 in and it smoothed it out a bit and made it sound a bit more like my JB. I'm going to order a A2 next and see what that sounds like. I'm kind of going for that early VH tone from the club days. There are lots of photos floating around that show a SD in a bunch of guitars ... even the frankenstrat at one point. I think he used an A2 and I can see how it would warm up the tone some more. It's pretty sizzly as is. Not sure if I really like it or not.

I've seen glued ones. It was a PAFPro I think, but am not too sure. It's been more than 7 years now.
