i know, i didn´t study sweep picking ENOUGH, but... i tried a lot and it always have a problem... sometimes with the 4th finger, making noise instead of sweeping and smoothly sound.. or a problem with speed... right hand faster than left hand. any Tips that Really works in a medium/short space of time?
I play guitar for almost 10 years now(in june, it´s my BIRTHDAY as a guitarrist, i´ll turn 10 years of unholyness ahahahah) .

I've just started learning sweeping. Over how many strings do you sweep?

Hey WFD,

It took me a while to finally get that technique to click. I spent a lot of time working very slowly with a metronome . After a long time of feeling that I was making no progress, it finally clicked. There's really no substitute for slow methodical practice when it comes to this technique. After a while, like any other technique, your hands will learn what to do but you'll have to be patient.

Start slowly. Seriously.

Re: Sweep picking. what to do to make it right?!

i always had a tendency to sweep faster with my picking hand than i was actually supposed to. my fretting hand couldn't keep up, but it wasn't that my fretting hand was being too slow, it's that my picking hand was being too fast.

you have to focus a lot on your hand/hand coordination, but once you get that down, the technique starts to come more naturally.

Re: Sweep picking. what to do to make it right?!

I started out slowly sweep picking bar chords with a light palm mute(full distortion so it sounds like ass when you mess up), to get the pick feel correct. Then went on to more complicated arpeggios. Definately work both clean and with distortion. You will be tighter and more precise.

Check out Michangelo's Speed Kills DVD. There's a bunch of Arpeggios in the lessons and you can watch him picking them slow and ridiculously fast.

Thats not the best shape for minor Arpeggios

Heres one I use alot and these 5 stringers flow real well.. just lower the 3rd and its a minor.

Theres a section in this clip at 0:24 where I do slower Major, minor, diminished and Maj7 arpeggios. http://hair-metal.com/tunes/splawn3.mp3

Tempo on that is quarter notes at 130bpm. I think working them slow in triplet feel is the best way to practice them. For example put your metronome slow like on 80bpm an play 6 notes per beat. Work that up gradually never increasing the tempo more than 4 beats per day. Never set it faster than you can play them clean. I guarantee in about 30 days you'll be ripping them.

Re: Sweep picking. what to do to make it right?!

The greatest thing ever for helping my sweeping technique was learning to economy/sweep pick instead of alternate picking. It may not work for all but it did for me.

Re: Sweep picking. what to do to make it right?!

I'd start with 3 string, then 4, then 5, then 6 when you become a monster.
