Sometimes the local guitar center has a solid find. Plugged into this absurdly clean 1-12 1963 Royalist combo, and she grinds beautifully. Nice warm bottom end, pretty sure it's loaded with a Jensen Alnico, and will know the tube layout upon returning home... 199.00 out the door, a lil Christmas cash in hand, I had no choice. Beautiful shape, and the tone brings the goods.

I went in for a volume pot, but this sucker caught my eye. Really killer sounding lil amp.

Seeing this amp brings tears to my eyes.
To late now, but I can't go back and get the equipment I didn't appreciate in the late 60's and 70 and dumped -traded or sold off just to get rid of it.
If I only could go back in time ..........

I remember hearing tails of folks tossing their Traynor amps instead of retubing them. The tragedy of lost amps, and lost tubes, has no end, I am always thrilled when I find a pristine one.

That amp looks ... amazing!! LOVE the styling ... reminds me very much of classic American hifi. If I had the space/means, I would definitley be playing combo amps now. Unfortunatley, my circumstances will have me using heads and iso cabs for the forseeable future.

It has a beautiful style about it, a touch of Art Deco meets mid century. The speaker was pretty much cooked when I really dug into it, so I just stuck an old Special Design I had sitting around, a mid 60s. Will try to get a clip up soon.

Geez. that Mullard is worth over half what you paid for it, assuming it's still got plenty of strength left.

And you know it does, because the tube is original to the and the amp is not thrashed.In this case, the amp looks almost like a closet queen, Amazing score.Not sure if the old RCA's had 'live chassis'; VERY dangerous-watch out! Probably not though..very early Japanese amps might have this.Live chassis amps ( more often than not rats nest point to point) are throwaway.
Only time you gotta really worry about 12ax7 being used up that is when you get a worn out used up amp.Yeah, that 12ax7 is worth 1/3-1/5 of the cost he paid for that amp, assuming its not a live chassis, which i don't think it is probably cause its US made I think, and also cause it looks like a later 60's amp when they didnt do it too much.

So cool to find mint examples of vintage amps. Your collection is getting crazy!

And Jerry......the guy just can't let go of the fact that he stuck his hand in an old SS amp and electrocuted his drunk ass! hahahahaha

It has been a very solid season of cheap amp scores, helps make winter suck a bit less. Hoping to get a clip up tomorrow, it's a killer little amp. Tossed a Jensen Special Design in it, but I think I am going to want something a bit fuller sounding in it, but no rush....
