Taking out the bite (Eminence owners)

Or maybe just lessening it. I have a Mesa F 30 open back with Vintage 30 speaker. I mostly play heavy rock and metal. I read about doping, but am wondering about speaker choices also. I read 1x12's have a tendency to be bright. I haven't got the option to try cabs yet, unfortunately. I've heard the Governor is a nice alternative and easier on the ears. Any other suggestions from the Eminence line? BTW, I assume the speaker I have has been broken in, because I bought the amp used. Thanks.

Ya know, I've been thinking about that Cannabis Rex lately. Alot of guys seem to like that one. They say it has a nice smooth top end.

The Emm's are very very nice...but I prefer Celestions.

Your Vintage 30 is a bright speaker...all V30's are. You'd like a Celestion G12H30 better: more bass, more mids...a little less treble. It's my fave!

The Governor is as you spoke of, easier on your ears than the V30, of course application dependent. It is mid-heavy, with more mids than the V30 and has a bit less bottom to my ears. The Wizard is a little less mid-heavy and a little more open sounding than the Governor.
A Celestion and an Emi have a different signature sound to them, I think somewhat like Duncan and Dimarzio's have a different signature sound. I for one, like a mix of Emi's and Celestions, but many dislike this practice.

I came across these while I was surfing the Weber store page. They help spread out the high frequencies to help reduce the harshness of some speakers.

The GOVERNOR is a great speaker.Mine is really sweet now ,and it took 48 hours of white noise to break it in!it's not harsh at all.Has enough bottom for any heavy aplication ,and it's tighter than the V30!As stated before .more midds ,and more definition IMHO.

Maybe Try weber speakers the british range is based on the old (american made) celestions, handmade and come with the choice of wattage, ohmage and whether alnico coil or ceramic. This gives lots of choice and they are similary priced to eminence speakers (cheaper then celestions well at least for me in australia)

1+ on the Webers. I've had Webers put in the last few amps I own , and could'nt be happier. The prices here in America are very fair too. At least check them out . Eminence makes some great speakers too. You probably could'nt go wrong with either ones , just do your homework to see what would be the best fit for you.

I would look at a Emi Tonespotter ( g1265 clone) as well. Fantastic speaker, it is perfect for hard rock. Very smooth on the top, great drive. I have one paired with an Emi Swamp Thang which is also a really nice fat speaker.

I personally cannot stand the v30 sound, it is all focused in the upper mids. Total fingers on the chalkboard for me.

You can also spray fabric softener on the cones of the speaker, get em good and make sure they dry. Really opens the speakers up by loosening the cone, warmer highs, rounder bass. I do it with all my new speakers.

I have a buddy with a Mesa MK III, G12h set up, the fizz of the Mesa does not compliment the breakup up of a G12H at all, no note definition, it is all sizzle. I think a speaker with less breakup would be a better way to go IMO.
