Talk Box Equip.

Re: Talk Box Equip.

i have one and i use it without a mic. its loud enough for bedroom volumes. but any louder than that. you will need a mic. from what i understand a small guitar amp like that will work.

Re: Talk Box Equip.

I mic my Banshee with a Shure SM57, and run it though a small Kustom PA. Those can be had new for less than $200, here's a link:

Kustom PA

Sounds pretty good for cheap, and I can use the other three channels too.

Re: Talk Box Equip.

Find a cheap Gorilla amp or pignose to power the talkbox and then mic your mouth for performance situations. You can also build a cheap talkbox that is just as good as anything you buy. I will tell you how if you want.

Cool, should I PM you or something for this info?

Re: Talk Box Equip.

Hey, if anybody wants to build a talkbox, I have a bunch of assorted PA horn drivers that would be good. I tried to buy a couple for my own talkbox on eBay, and inadvertantly ended up with five. Oops.

These are all heavy-duty paging horn drivers, with higher power ratings and lower frequency response than your normal high-frequency horn (tweeter) driver.

PM me if you're interested.

You just need to take off the bell housing around the horn and the baffle at the front of the horn. The horn will kind of look like a small trumpet. Get some surgical tubing and a brass tap with some rubber washers. Feed the tap into the tubing. You may need to soften up the tubing if using the clear hardware store stuff. Just use a cup of boiling water to soften it up. I used the top from an RX bottle and drilled a hole in it with a washer on either side of the tap. I then epoxyed the lid to the top of the horn so it was airtight. Now you have a talk box! Just hook it up to a small amp.

I built mine from an old PA horn I found.

I supose you could just use a RX bottle and epoxy it over the threaded mount? What did you use?

Re: Talk Box Equip.

I haven't gotten around to building mine yet, but I have a heap o' drivers.:smack:

I think the 1 3/8" 18 TPI threads on compression drivers do not mate up with normal plumbing fittings. So, one method would be to force fit and/or epoxy a PVC pipe fitting to the driver, then adapt to your plastic tube (advantage: everything's available at Home Depot.

If you want to get fancy,
Parts Express sell an adapter plate
that could be used to mount a driver to the inside of an enclosure. Bolting a standard pipe flange on the other side would allow you to connect the tube using standard fittings. I'll probaly go this route if/when I get around to it.
