Talk box options

I asm going to add a talk box to my pedal board setup and was wondering on some opinions between the Banshee Talkbox and the Heil. With the heil it requires an additional amp and am relly not wanting to lug around two amps for a gig and such. Also just wondering why i would need a mic for the banshee since it alredy has a amplified signal in it.. Any question. Current setup in a EC1000 => crybaby => GNX3 => roland GR20 with Sonic Stomp in effects loop of Roland JC120.

Re: Talk box options

The reason it needs a mic is because, the way a talkbox works, it takes the amplified guitar signal, and puts it through a speaker in the box itself. A tube is connected near this speaker and this is the tube that goes to your mouth. The sound of the guitar goes into the tube, and thus into your mouth so you can shape how it sounds. Now, the only way for that sound to get picked up at all is with a microphone, otherwise, it just reverberates in your body and a little around your mouth, hardly audible.

Re: Talk box options

I have a Banshee....it's pretty cool and way more simple than the Heil. It sunds OK, good, but not great. For all the more I use it (never really) it does the trick. The Heil requires a seperate amp or an A/B switch of some sort. Then there's the whole impedence matching issue, more trouble than it's worth, unless you're Peter Frampton or Joe Walsh! The Banshee can also power a speaker cabinet as a practiceamp.........

how is your setup run. would you use the mic or jun run it as a stopmbox. I am not a singer so what is you opinion on that

Re: Talk box options

You have to use a mic thru a PA. Your sound is amplified by the talkbox and routed to your mouth by the tube. The mic pics up the sound and it comes out the PA. Your actual guitar amp is not used.

Re: Talk box options

Here's what a typical talkbox setup looks like. Building your own talkbox is very simple and it sounds every bit as good as production talkboxes.

Re: Talk box options

I have been doing some reading. This is what i might try. WQanna get some opinions. I am gonna get the banshee to eliminate the need for the extra amp and the a/bing going on. I will run a sm57 mic to my pa. this is the tricky part... where in my set up would i include this. ltd Ec1000 => crybaby => GNX 3. all this goes into the mix signal of the GR20. should i place it before an effects with the dry guitar signal or after the effects unit?

Re: Talk box options

Before effects. Any effects you use wouldn't be intelligible through the talkbox and any effects you would use for that signal would need to be at the mixing board.

Re: Talk box options

so placing the banshee before my wah on my effects chain or a separate signal path by itself only.

Re: Talk box options

Its an option.. But I am wanting to experiment it iwth some original tunes and some of the songs I am currently doing as far as southern rock and clasic rock. Just to toy around with and an more options to add depth to my music
