Talk me out of buying a Warpigs set

I just got a bonus from work for moving to a new location, and I came in under budget. I have some extra scratch to play around with but I should probably save it. I would except I've wanted to try a set of warpigs for years. I have a PRS SE Paul Allender with an Alt 8/Air Classic set that just isn't doing it for me. I was thinking about pulling the trigger. If there are any reasons why I shouldn't, please let me know!

Re: Talk me out of buying a Warpigs set

The Warpig did surprise me a little with a bit more going on in the highs than expected from the BKP tonechart.

Are you looking for a set or just the one?

As a set, I like the Nailbomb in a bright guitar. For a bridge, I like the Rebel Yell, but the RY beck didn't work for me. The VHII set is pretty nice and articulate in both positions. The Aftermath set is alright if you remember to get the hex bolt for the tight focused vibe, or the standard filisters for something thicker.

In fact, the AM with filisters might also be a good contender for someone wanting the Warpig.

The flip side is that the BKP hype is a little greater than the reality. And the customer service can be more miss than hit.

If you got a wad of dough you want to part with, maybe start with your goals.

Why should some dude that sucks waste money on them? Try lessons instead. ;)

I think I have the chops to justify owning them. I've always loved doom metal, so that's why I always wanted them. The guitar is nasally and bright in the bridge; I think it's from the physical qualities of the bridge. I really want a huge, not ice-picky sounding bridge, and from the neck a smooth, fluid solo tone. I don't want it to be invader levels of muddiness. That's about it in terms of tonal goals.

I'm getting a new semi hollow warmoth build in the next month or so, and I'll be putting some Revel pickups in that (perfect pete bridge and cynic neck for anyone who might know that brand). I also have a warmoth WGD with a Lace Lifer neck and a Super D bridge. I'm half tempted to put the warpigs in there, but I'm pretty satisfied with the tone. The Allender is the only guitar I have where I don't really like the pickups. The Alt 8 sounds kind of tinny and the air classic is a little scooped sounding.

I actually have! It's been on my "want to try" list for a while. It could be a reasonable compromise. I'd also need a neck pickup. Maybe an Air Norton, Evo Neck, Breed, Liquifire, Full Shred? Not really sure for that one. I've always been drawn to the warpig. I'm not sure why, especially because I play more phish styled music now than doom.

Now that I think about it, I have a Black Winter neck, I think that might be worth taking a spin. I may even put the polepieces all the way in and try it in the bridge. Does anyone think that would be a particularly bad idea?

So it looks like I'm going to get them. I'll be getting the Alnico 5 bridge for the smoother highs. I'm also going for those burnt chrome pickup covers, they should look sweet for the type of music I play.
