Talk to me about Phasers and Tremolos.

These are the next 2 items on my list for my pedal board. They aren't FX I use just a whole lot so I'm not wanting something necessarily boutique or high-end, but I want something nice, and I don't mind investing in quality pieces.

I tend to use these FX sparingly. Just to add a bit of texture to a tune, or specific passage.

I'm considering an MXR Phase 90. It seems to be pretty standard issue.

As far as tremolo... I dunno what I am looking for. Tap Tremolo would be nice, but not necessary.

True bypass would be Nice, but is by no means essential at the moment.

the two tremelos i really like are the ehx pulsar and the voodoo labs one. i heard pretty good things about the boss tremolo too. never played one though. if you want cheap look for a boss on ebay

I use the Boss, and it's a good all-around tremolo: cheap, plentiful, and indestructible. I like it even better after I modded it to fix the "volume drop" problem. It involved swapping one resistor.

No tap tempo, though.

New Duncan Tremolo! Shape Shifter. True Bypass, Tap Tempo, and very controllable its gonna be my next purchase

I just can't get into the sound of the regular Phase 90. The script RI is supposed to be good, but when I went to GC I came home with a Small Stone Nano. It was crazy I gave it a try and my wife said that's the pedal you need to get it.

I like the foolproof interface. You have a switch which moves the sweep emphasis from the beginning and end to the middle of the sweep. Then you have your speed/intensity knob.

I really like my Maxon Phaser, which I use a lot...but if I wanted a phasor for once in a while use and didn't want to spend a bundle, i agree with Luke on the EH Small Stone Nano...it has the color switch that changes the vibe of the phasing--to my ear, it goes from more subtle to more in your face--whereas the Phase 90 is just one sound. Ultimately, either would be great and both sound like classic phasers to me.

That's a good description. 1 subtle sound, 1 in your face sound.

When I was looking for a phase shifter one my BIG criterias was ease of use. It's incredibly easy to dial in your tone with something that has 1 knob and 1 switch.
