Talk to me about refinishing!

Hey dudes,

I was just thinking, if I were to want my guitars refinished it'd cost me a lot of money here in Holland. There is one guy who's cheap, but he lives on the other side of the country and I don't fully trust his skills. I know some of you have shops or do some instrument building yourselfs so I wanted to ask you something. If I were to want a guitar with a Flame or Quilt top refinished with nitrocelluse and the neck to be refinished in satin how much would that cost me? I'd change it to a Boneyard design like this one: http://www.gibsoncustom.com/Signature/perry/images/perry.jpg
I'm not trying to get someone yet, I just wanted to know who's able to do this kinda stuff and how much it'd cost me.

So please don't make any deals with me yet, I'm just asking!

Thanks!

Wow, that guy is really expensive. Even more expensive than the Dutch luthiers, at least he is for set neck guitars. Thanks for the info, but I was looking for something cheaper :)

This guy is probably the best restoration facility in the Eastern USA. He has restored vintage D'angelicos, 58 &59 Les Pauls, a 54 Strat you name it. I know he can do what you need. I am not certain what he woud charge you.

Re: Talk to me about refinishing!

I'm not positive about this, but I think our own Zerb does this, and he's in Germany. Maybe a little closer.

Re: Talk to me about refinishing!

Not sure if I understand...you want a flame or quilt top, BUT what kind of top do you have now? That is not a 'refinish' if your top is neither, it would take a luthier to put on a new top and then a nitro finish...that is pricey, a new finish would be much less. But maybe I'm being too technical? :13:
Yup, Chris Mirabella is the best, I hope to have some of his work in my grubby hands one day...

Re: Talk to me about refinishing!

Thanks guys, hope Zerb reads this topic then :)
Mirabella also looks interesting, might mail him
I was actually talking about a finish to be applied on a figured top. Which guitar will get refinished depends on the price of the refinishing.

I was actually hoping the experts here could offer me some deals too, but I'm still open for suggestions.

Thanks!

Well i was wondering the same thing... how much would cost a refinishing....

i have a jackson KV3 body i'd like to refinish in black.

The color it has now is a blue/green sparkle thing... don't ask... i must have been on something powerful the day i bought it... :smoker:
