tb6 or sh-6 distortion HOW TO TONE THE DISTORTION ASPECT DOWN

I like the tone of the distortion pickup but I feel it has a little too much gain. I ordered a nickel covered one in hopes that it tames it a little. Any ideas on how to do this besides lowering the pickup? I like the amount of gain in the patb1 but it sounds cardboardlike in my LP. I like the open qualities of the C5 as well. To give an idea of the tone I am looking for.

Get a regular sized ceramic mag and switch it for the larger on in the SH-6.
