TBX tone control and humbuckers?

Alright, so I'm going to rewire my Cort with all new pots, caps, switch, and all that good stuff.

I never use the humbucker/single-coil split, so I'm not going to bother with that.

But I saw a thread about the TBX tone control, and the treble cut/bass cut thing looks interesting. Anybody do this with humbuckers? Would the 250k/1M Fender TBX control work well if I'm used to 500k pots? Would I want to use a lower cap value?

I'm thinking .015 for the treble cut and .001 for the bass cut...

Re: TBX tone control and humbuckers?

The 1 meg portion of the TBX pot and the volume control pot value would determine the depth of the bass cut. So a 500K volume pot instead of a 250K volume pot would mean less depth of the bass cut as it would level out sooner. Using a smaller cap for the bass cut would be appropriate.

Since your pickup choice and amplifier will vary from mine I suggest testing a cap value before soldering it in. Those leads with clips on each end makes it easy to do this.

I have only used this rewire with one guitar.

I have installed a TBX for a guy with a humbucker. It sounded better to him when I cut out the resistor on the TBX. He played jazz and had a 500K volume pot and this made the response smoother and less muddy for him. It was not the bass cut though.

I hope this helps.

By the way I love cort guitars. I have a classic from the mid 1990s. It is like the old black beauty les Pauls.

Hmmm...okay, I'm going to get a bunch of different caps and expirement with them. They're only a buck a pop and I only need one big and one small cap.

Anyone have any sample values they can offer?

And yeah, the Katana is a sweet guitar. Yeah, it's made in Korea or Taiwan or someplace, but it plays better than any guitar I've ever picked up outside of maybe a couple really well set up Gibby's.

And it's gorgeous.
And it's got TONE.

And it's 25.5" scale so I can slap on some .11-.56's and detune to open C!

Yep, the Cort Katana just rocks - comes with an Invader and Jazz right? Atleast the model that I saw made me want to buy it instantly, but it appears that they do not make a lefty model! :yell:

Re: TBX tone control and humbuckers?

This one came with "Mighty Mite" humbuckers...I guess they are something like 18k??? Anyways, very mediocre sounding. Worse than stock Epiphone pickups. Those went bye-bye the first night.
