A couple of you guys may have remember when i loaned my parents money to help my sister.. well they came through and payed me back, and since i already bought at amp, i have $500 of extra spendin money... I've heard the G-major from TC electronics is quite the multieffects processor, any comments? I need an effects processor, as of now, i dont have any effects pedals.. only distortion, volume, etc. Thanks

Re: TC electronics G major

I picked up a G Major a couple of weeks ago and it's the best processor I have played through to date. You'll dig it alot.

Re: TC electronics G major

excellent piece of work.
be sure you get a proper MIDI pedal for it.
i think it can be wired to your amp so you could even do channel switching with it

Re: TC electronics G major

Dude I envy the fact you have enough money at the moment to buy one, Im GASin for one really bad..The Amp channel switching option just sells it for me..

Re: TC electronics G major

My amp is midi switched so I dont use the channel switching jack but it is a very cool feature. One of the things that is cool about the G Major other than the fact that the effects are top notch is that the EQ, compression and gate can be saved into the presets so that you can have the same patch for your clean and distorted tones and then apply the gate on the high gain patch and the compression on the low gain patch (same effects - different application) and then eq both to taste. The high freq roll off on the modulation and delay effects is nice too and mimics the tone of pedal effects.

If you are running a stereo rig the leslie/panning patches are to die for.

Trust me on this one, if you want a unit that will do just about anything, the G Major is the one to get. For the price, it's unbeatable.

Re: TC electronics G major

best bang for ya buck mate;)
this is all studio quality processing
the switching is an awesome feature
the only thing the gmajor is limited by is the midi pedal u choose - make sure u get one with lots of CC pedals and on/off capabilities upon the standard preset change ones

as ive mentioned b4, chek the TC website and order a free sample CD - u wont be dissapointed
one thing to note is James Hetfield is using 2 in his new live rig - interesting....

enjoy man

Re: TC electronics G major

just on the topic of the FCB1010....
when i was researching what midi board to get with my gmajor, i thought long and hard about the fcb1010
they are cheap, with lots of buttons!
but, at the time i was researching, i remember they were really limited by the number of effect on/off buttons it had. i think it could only handle 2 or somthing (i cant remember exactly)
i then rang Behringer Australia and they said it was limited in this sense
BUT then they told me they might be doing a software upgrade that would allow lots of on/off changes (i forgot the technical term for that)

i ended up getting an ART X-15 - on the TC forums, its the #1 recommended midi unit for the Gmajor. U can find em on ebay as i did - my one works fine and does everything under the sun

theres lots of options, so have fun researching!!!

robert, by what methods does the g major switch amp channels?

Re: TC electronics G major

The G-Major uses a simple electrical-short type relay via a 1/4 inch cable in order to switch amp channels along with the presets. Of course your amp needs an auxiliary 1/4 inch switching input to do this but it works fabulousy. If I used a stereo-split y-cable I could also manipulate the amp reverb or the amp solo boost if I wanted to, as it is a double-relay.

Sorry I'm late on this thread... ;)

I'll cut to the chase with the G-Major. simply put for $500 plus the cost of whatever midi controller you choose it will do the job of about $1500 worth of pedals. And I mean GOOD pedals. The quality and control range of the effects themselves surpass about 95% of the floor unit I've tried, owned, or had experience with. Sound preservation is top-notch, I was shocked to hear the difference of how much tone was being sucked up through the 50+ feet of cable and the 7-8 boxes on the floor that i used to run through. I still do use a Wah, EQ, Whammy, and BD2 on the floor just out of personal preference even though the GMajor can be preprogrammed for EQ shifts and Whammy functions with the right midi pedal. The noise gate and the compressor are so good that its hard to tell whether or not they're working... until you turn them off!!

Awesome unit... one of my ex-coworkers at GC has both a G-Major and a G-Force and while he says the capabilities of the G-force outdo the GMajor by a long shot, the sound is not all that far off.

I may never use a pedal for noise gate, compression, chorus, delay, detuning, flange, phase, tremolo, vibrato, or reverb ever again.

Re: TC electronics G major

I this what I have been looking for???? I have been looking for a processor without distortons that has great effects. Am I correct assuming this does not have distortions? I am also curious to know if it can switch between two different amps either by switching or paning and do it with out any noise or coloring?

*in best Ed McMahon voice* You are correct, Sir!!! YES!!

I'm pretty sure it can't switch bewteen 2 different amps like an a/b switch can but it will do full stereo.
