TC electronics Nova System- New user

Hi I just picked up a used one, wonder whats best for my distortion. I want to use my amps distortion but when running it in the loop it sounds kind of thin and not as warm, I kind of figured it would do that im not that big on using loop for effects. Any ideas? played with the EQ but not too much luck, could try a warmer tube in that slot. Are some of you just going strait in the amp and bypass the drive unit?

Re: TC electronics Nova System- New user

I just got my Nova System about two weeks ago. I'm using it through a Splawn Nitro and Engl Gigmaster head. I also have a TC Vintage Overdrive pedal which is the same overdrive of the Nova System. Overall the overdrive of the Nova is almost identical to the Vintage OD pedal.

I don't know how it sounds running it through the effects loop yet because I have only been using it through the input. So far I get killer OD for my drive channel and great distortion for my clean channel.

The effects are great but only useful very subtly set and using distortion. On a clean amp the effects all sound great. I imagine the effects will certainly improve through the effects loop.

I plan to use my TC Vintage OD in the input and the Nova System in the loop. I love the sound TC overdrive gives me so I'm keeping it at the front of the amp.

Have you tried playing with the routing yet? What amp are you running it through?

One more amp I tried the Nova OD and distortion on is a Marshall JVM. It sounds incredibly good. The Nova OD/Dist gives the JVM a better overall sounding gain. It's making me seriously consider trading up my Nitro for a JVM 410. I know the JVM is supposed to have a great effects loop. I'll let you know when I can try my Nova System through it.

...and the TC Vintage Overdrive is identical to the T-Rex Alberta. These pedals are nice but could have been smaller. The pcb inside just take 1/3 of the space.
No idea about the Nova System... sorry.

I have owned both and the Alberta does not sound like the TC Vintage Overdrive. The T-Rex Alberta is brighter and more transparent than the TC Vintage OD. The TC Vint OD is a little warmer and richer. I think the Vintage OD is more versatile since it can do the transparent boost thing but is also great for boosting an already overdriven amp. The Alberta is too transparent and bluesy sounding to boost an overdriven amp for metal.

Got my Nova System last spring. It's been great for gigs. I really don't use the Nova Drive section of it though -- because I prefer my OCD. I'm an OCD addict! Nevertheless... the Nova Drive is a pretty decent OD and I was able to dial it in to sound just like my modded TS9. So it's no slouch.

I having issues with loop , sounds thin i think because its not a serial loop! I want to use my distortion and put the unit in the loop

Re: TC electronics Nova System- New user

figured it out it was the speaker sim was on lol, this thing sounds killer! top notch and dam the EQ wow

Re: TC electronics Nova System- New user

if anybody has not tried one of these you dont know what your missing! no more patch cables or pedals to worry about and the sound is better then ever! The Eq really shapes your tone like no other and dont even campare to a mxr pedal. Your sound just sounds more professional like you running it though a board or something.
