Never played the head, but owned the Trademark 60 & it was a great amp....also played the TM10 & TM30, which were also great amps.
They get a little muddy at higher volumes in their own cabs....if you got the head & ran it thru, say, a 4x12 Marshall cab, it might do want it says it will.
I'm leaning towards cab & speakers will dictate what it does......
I love the TECH21 stuff, but there's just something about this head that doesn't jive with me........maybe someone that plays it will chime in.:dunno:

From what i've read about it, it's pretty close to the trademark 10 layout, except there are three independent channels and then your master controls.
If that is the case, the factory settings that they provide are okay, but you can get some great sounds out of it. And, I was surprised to find that those Tech 21 amps sound better when you crank them (with the exception of the farting 8" speaker when you do some low end chugging on the Trademark 10).

I think I know what you mean. I love the Trademark 60 - it packs some awesome tones and features into a small lightweight package. It's great for home practice, band rehearsals and small gigs (bigger gigs if mic'd). But if I want something big and loud it's gonna be a tube amp! The idea of a 300w Tech 21 just doesn't appeal to me. Never actually played one though.

Didn't someone on this forum have a couple of those heads for sale

If you haven't checked out the Tech21 site, here's some samples of
the Trademark 300 head played using the different presets:
Clean with the "SRV" setting + extra gain
Heavy sound with the "Californian" setting
"Mountain" sound (using the "British" setting + extra gain).
Specs on the gear used, etc. on this page.

I haven't played the 300 head, but I do own a Trademark 60. I will offer up my humble opinion of the tones of the 300's little brother:
It rocks.
I think it sounds so good, I keep thinking something is wrong. Like, 'how can this thing be so (relatively) inexpensive, light weight, and sound so good? It msut be f@*king broken!"
I think Tech 21's claims to sonic reproduction are mostly accurate. I think these babies can really nail Fender, Vox, and Marshall. But for uber-high gain, nu-metal, cookie monster, or anything like that, I don't think you'll be satisfied... I don't think they're really made to do that stuff.
But they do take pedals well. Hmmm, throw a Keeley Twilight Zone in front and... BAM. C is for Cookie.

The Mesa settings are based more on the Mark IV, NOT A RECTO! Deeper voice, nice and smooth. For Metallica, it will do MOP and AJFA types of sounds if you have a pickup that is hot enough. Most people would probably still want a distortion pedal in front of it.
The Fender channel sounds good, but there is a BIG volume drop when switching from one of the other channels. That sucks.
The Marshall channel is cool, and it covers a lot of ground, unfortunately clean is not part of that ground. The Mesa channel does a pretty good clean, but not the Marshall channel. I don't think Marshall amps have ever been known for their clean sound, though.
