technical question

Greetings all,

So I bought this SSL-1 and a SH-6 for my HSS strat, finished wiring em in. But, I wired them in exactly the same configuration as the stock pickups on my strat. When played, these pups sound great but both (the SSL-1 in the neck pos and the SH-6 in bridge pos) generate a significant (not overpowering, but noticeable) 60 cycle hum.

I've just found the recommended wirings on this site and I'm about to go re-wire. My question though is why should the wiring need to be different for stock fender pups vs custom pups??

thanks,
-Aaron

Re: technical question

fender singles have the opposite polarity from duncans so if you follow the fender wiring diagram you need to reverse the hot and ground leads on the duncan pups and if you follow the duncan diagram you need to reverse the hot and ground leads on the fender pups.

if you have 2 duncans and one fender in there, my advice is to follow the duncan diagram and simply switch the 2 leads on the fender single ie make the one that used to go to the switch go the vol ground and vice versa.
