Tele "build" project

Re: Tele "build" project

that is one sexy tele. I would have went with the other gotoh tuners though. ive never been a fan of the vintage style. My faves are actually the schaller minis.

either way, cant wait to see it with the neck on. I have 3 all rosewood necks with a hard V carve from USACG and they are some of the best i have ever laid hands on.

Re: Tele "build" project

I was very, VERY close to ordering the Gotoh minis. They are very nice looking, super sleek and modern. I just didn't feel that they meshed with the overall vibe of this particular guitar. I'd love to use them on another build sometime though!

Re: Tele "build" project

I gotta second that. These vintage style Gotohs don't feel very good at all.

I would think twice between drilling the 7 holes.

Myself I'm getting a new Tele neck and I'l go Schallers with pearloid pegheads.

Not sure I follow, do you have a set on a guitar and don't like them or do you just not like the way they look? If you have a set and don't care for them, might I ask why? I read very few bad reviews for these so I'd be interested in hearing from people that don't like them, as you said, before I drill into my shiny new neck when it arrives!

I have the Gotoh vintage style tuners on the neck of my black Korina tele and on my scalloped Blazer neck. Actually I kicked them off the latter IIRC.

They are hard to turn and uncomfortable. The construction with no nut on the front means that if your holes are a little big then the insert works it's way out. The screws they include are complete &((@(@, I had one break inside the hole and another losing the cross from just perfectly medium turn force.

I don't buy Gotoh anymore, I don't like their tune-o-matics either, including the tonepro locking stuff.

Re: Tele "build" project

Got an update from USA Customs today, hopefully I'll have a tasty slab of rosewood in my hands within a week or two:

"Sorry for the delay my friend! We have been waiting for the right size piece of wood. I think I have it now so we will be scooting you through over the next few days. I will email you again when we ship. In the meantime feel free to keep checking back!"

Re: Tele "build" project

Got another update from USACG. Looks like the piece of rosewood they picked for me "fell out". In other words, it developed a huge fissure right down the middle when they started working with it and basically split in half longways. So, they've got a rush order with their supplier for more blanks, but the stock is currently drying so I'll need to wait a bit longer.

That's totally cool with me, I know they turn out a great product and I am willing to wait for the perfect neck. After all, if it's not right it will basically ruin the whole guitar for me. They've been totally up front and honest with what's happening though, and even cut me a bit of a deal since I've had to wait so long. That's why they'll continue to get my business, great customer service on top of the killer products.

Re: Tele "build" project

I would reverse the control plate. Tone,Volume then Switch.
3-Ply all Black guard. JMHO bro.

I thought about flipping the control plate, but I do more switching than I do knob-turning (although I do a lot of both). Plus I personally like the way it looks this way better. If I did flip the plate, I'd most certainly wire it Volume/Tone/switch.
