3) Your tastes will always be evolving. And they will change and shift very rapidly early on in the game. I was always after the next purchase or the next change in my rig when i was younger (I started playing at 13, I'm 21 now), but being on a limited budget I was confined to what i could afford and what I felt worked for me at the time. I also had lots of different ideas of what I wanted to sound like, what my colors and shades of tone would be. Only in the past few years have i really started to get a sense of where my true personality lies on the sonic spectrum. It was a long, expensive journey but i learned a LOT about gear and about myself as a player and musician by going through different sounds and different phases. And sometimes I learned the most by just making do with what I had. I will always be making small changes here and there, occasionally a larger one. But I'll still be me. I had to figure out what's NOT me to get there. An Ibanez Jem 555 and a Marshall Valvestate worked for me for a while, but in the end thats not where I am. I'm much happier with a Fender Strat or an EBMM Silo and a modern tube amp capable of a nice sparkly clean channel and a fat, british sounding drive section. I've also done almost a complete 180 on where my effects use is concerned. My point is... you'll always be looking for something different. The best solution to this is to find gear that can change WITH you. This is why I like things like Line 6 amps a lot. If you know how to wrangle them, you can really get a wide range of tones from them, and then hone in on what you feel you like best.
Hope this gives you something to ponder.
