your probably gonna think i play country, because i love the Tele so much, but i actually play punk. i just have a deep love for it's wang and bounce, not to mention playability, anyone else?

Re: Tele love

Used a tele for a few yrs, played hard rock. However, I had after market pups which helped facilitate that. DMZ Chopper T in the bridge, DMZ Virtual Vintage T neck.

I have played Teles w/decent stock pups, or after market pups of the vintage variety, and have enjoyed them. And, I do like the look.

Re: Tele love

i have a 1999 MIM tele that is pretty much stock... only things have been changed is the pickguard and a different bridge... i play hard rock 90% of the time.... that tele fits the bill as it has some huge low end to it i didn't expect from a tele.... and when i roll the tone controll back a little bit i get an almost P90 like sound... my tele is pretty much the only guitar i use a tone controll on!

Being a huge fan of Pete Townshend and knowing that he has used many teles for a few years live and even more so in the studio, the teles had my interest pretty early.... i'm glad i found a good one for not much coin!!!

Re: Tele love

I generally like the feel, and control layout of the Tele. Everything's in the right place.

It's one of the best modding platform out there so there're a lot of real interesting personalized Telecasters.

And they're about as tough as a guitar can get, so they get used instead of protected.

Re: Tele love

I have a MIJ Fernandez 50's style tele with a STL-2 tapped in the bridge and an APH-1n. It'll cover everything from Bakersfield to nu-metal.

I also own a MIJ 69 Thinline RI with a Zhangbucker Paul Bunyan in the bridge. That one covers pretty much everything up to hard rck and is light as a feather. I love it for live use.

I play punk and ska in my band and my MIM Sunburst Tele has become my main axe. It's got a bucker in the neck and in a weeks time when I get b-day money, I'll be buying a P-rails to stick in the bridge, as well as a new bridge plate for it. Although that's simply because I need to own a guitar with a bridge P-90, I love the stock single coil already in it, and may adjuct my strat pickguard to fit it in the bridge.

Re: Tele love

I definitely love my MIM tele...the pickups in that thing are hawt!!! Not as fond of the neck pup, but the bridge pup on that thing is so fat and chunky sounding, yet it retains the twang and high end, very versatile guitar. You also can't beat the rugged, stripped down look of a tele. They're not meant to be fancy looking guitars, they are down and dirty. I would never trade it for anything, not even if I was offered one of those $250 000 EVH relic guitars.

Re: Tele love

Tele's can work great for any style of music. Put a HotRails or Lil59 in the bridge and its an awesome rock guitar.

You've got artist as diverse as Joe Strummer, Prince, Brent Manson, and the dude from Slipknot that all play a tele if that tells you anything

Man if you weren't new here I'd probably bug you for that typo, but I do agree with the main point of your post. You wouldn't ever catch me playing country, and theres plenty of music that requires the bright articulation of a tele.

Re: Tele love

I had my MIA tele for a month now. At first i had a hard time to set up amp and pedals to get a pleasing sound out of the pups, even though I loved the sound of the guitar unplugged. I guess havin' been a LP only player for more than 10 years didn't help.

Since I found the magic setting I can hardly play any other guitar - high on mids for clean and boosted sound, add a bucket of low end with the distortion. There is of course a "novelty" effect that make me all excited about this guitar. So we will have to see how the relationship evolves. I think it is going to even out as I still love my LPs and each guitar allow me to cover different grounds.

This guitar is more or less what I have been looking for for a long time though, a guitar that once you set up the amplification section, allows to go from one pup selection to another offering good sounds all round. Might be too early to tell, but I don't think I will feel the need to change pups in this one. Having said that, I want a black scratchplate... easy excuse to actually try new pups :)

I can't see this Tele throwing a huge low end though:)

Re: Tele love

If I was only allowed to own one electric axe, it would be a Tele - versatile, cool-looking and as undamageable as Gene Simmons' ego...

Me too.

Not that I wouldn't have some sort of Les Paul variation tucked away somewhere.

I'd have a hard time picking just one Tele though. If I had to pick just one Tele, I suppose it would be a humbucker Tele. Under the circumstances, I think I'd leave the traditional stuff for the fanatics.

Re: Tele love

i hate tele twang...but i love the way they look and feel. Im in the process of refinishing a tele right now and i can tell you, when i put it all back together, it aint gonna sound like a tele anymore, lol

and one of the guys from Social Distortion.

I want to get a squished humbucker for the bridge position of mine, but the stock pickups are totally rockin right now.

Johnny only uses the tele to play the lead on "Footprints on my Ceiling" all the times I've seen SD FYI, but I guess it still counts

Tele's are definatly awesome with a tele spaced bridge bucker like the lil59 or Hotrails. Lil59 you can split and still get the more traditional tele tones, not exactly as its a split bucker and all, but close.

The added versatility really takes the guitar to another level though in what you can do with it.

Re: Tele love

i pulled my MIM tele out this morning for a spin... man i love that thing... you can feel the neck is almost alive with string vibrations... whatever it is it feels and sounds great!!!! it's sick!

i hope to pick up a newer MIM Tele oneday soon too..... i just have to decide what to do as far as selling some un-used gear
