Tele neck cover

Did anyone change the nickeled brass cover on Duncans to raw nickel ones? Did it brighten up?

The brass cover is certainly a top-end killer.

While I've not done this mod, I would expect a nice tonal shift if the cover was not brass anymore. My mod was to order a pickup with the cover open in the centre - like a filtertron.

There are also chrome plated plastic ones. They can be a little hard to find but somebody is making them.

Covered tele neck pickups kinda suck. I take the covers off of mine. My fave tele neck is a Zhangbucker Paul Bunyan with no cover and string wrap. It sounds GREAT. Very open amd sparkly with good mids and a deep bottom end.
