Tele pickup recommendations

Oh forum pickup gods, I beg for your wisdom and mercy. Bascially, I'm planning a telecaster assembly that should finish up later this year. Alder body, maple/maple neck, and most likely a 4-way switching setup for standard + series options. I'd like to stay fairly close to the "vintage" ballpark as far as pickups go, as I'm mostly a blues/rock player.

I've considered a few options so far, including a Donahue bridge & vintage stack neck, 5/2 set, Broadcaster bridge + unknown neck... needless to say my head is spinning. Any help is greatly apprectiated, and I'd be glad to contribute more information if needed.

I have a Broadcaster/ Vintage Rhythm on my MIA tele and I think it sounds good. I think it has a .02 cap, per Fender's schematic, which probably helps the neck from being too dull, which can be the case with the usual .047 cap.

Howdy,

Oddly, when it comes to Teles I'm a DiMarzio man all the way. I know, I know. I must be insane, right? Test drive DiMarzio's Twang Kings. They're great for anything from Bakersfield all the way to Exiles on Main Street. Now if we're talking HBers or P-90s, make 'em SD. Good luck.

I think Seymour makes some good pickups, but, IMHO,noone can top Zhang's Paul Bunyan set for tele (with an uncovered neck).

For the neck the Vintage Rhythm is a great pickup and in the bridge if I were you I'd get either a Broadcaster or a Hot Tpped Tele...the Hot Tapped Tele sounds a lot like a Broadcaster on the low tap but is MUCH hotter, thicker, meaner on the full tap...that set up with the tap on a mini toggle or a push pull and the 4 way for series woudl give you a LOT of great tones wiht 2 pickups and fairly stock controls.

My alder Tele is heavier and brighter than my swamp ash Teles.

I'd go for an alnico 5 neck pickup and alnico 2 bridge pickup.

If you can afford them, the Duncan Custom Shop
A5 Tele ala Strat neck pickup and DCS A2 Tele Hot Tapped would be my recomendations.

Or a set of A2 Antiquity I's.

I use an APS-1 in the neck uncovered (I like this way better than any tele neck pup I've heard) and a Kinman 60s in the bridge. They are wired out of phase in the middle for a very cool quack.

While you do lose something going noiseless, with the Kinman, it is almost imperceptible. Plus it gives me at least one quiet spot to go to if I need it. I tried the Dimarzio VV, and it was not for me. The old Dimarzio squirt squirt every time you play a note. Great for some guys, not for me.

yup.

i dont like tele neck pups but evan has a guitar with the a5 tele ala strat neck pup and it was great, i played it for hours one day. didnt sound just like a strat but had a cool sound that still retained some of the tele character.

the cs a2 hot tapped tele is simply the best single coil bridge pup ive ever used. i believe that it is the same as the '53 jb esquire pup listed on the website, the specs are right anyway.
