Tele with neck humbucker question

Hello !

I have a chambered tele with a humbucker route in the neck position. I want a pickup combination that would be excellent for blues and classic rock. Which SD humbucker would you suggest for the neck ? - I have the opportunity to buy a used Pearly Gates HB and was wondering if this would be good for the neck position. What would any of you suggest for the bridge position ? The bridge is a traditional single-coil telecaster bridge. Also - how would you wire it ? I am thinking of a 5-way switch like Fender has on their "Fat Tele". Which pots ? Any help and suggestions are very appreciated.

Thank you,

John Carroll

Re: Tele with neck humbucker question

I have a tele with a neck humbucker, And I really like the Jerry Donahue Tele in the bridge, and an alnico 2 pro in the neck. I have no clips, but I assure you it is fat, meaty, big, and spanky.

I have an SH Tele too. I've put a Jerry Donahue in the bridge position and it's all I ever wanted of a tele... Hard to beat.

Right now I have the stock Duncan Designed HB-102 in the neck position, with an alnico 4 magnet in it. I'll probably replace it for a GFS Mean 90 or another humbucker.

I have a 500k vol pot, 250k tone pot, .047 cap and 3 way position. Usually, I roll the tone just a little bit back in the bridge position and, honestly, I don't think I need other pots or something. Maybe, if I get the Mean 90 i'll use 2 250k pots. The middle position is KILLER.

I had a push pull to split the neck humbucker, but I took it off, since the neck splited was so worse than its normal sound... So, I thought it was useless.

I hope I can help you, but I don't know what to get for the neck position as well.

Re: Tele with neck humbucker question

Well, I agree on the JD lead, but would recommend a true duncan over the dd, just personal preferance.

Re: Tele with neck humbucker question

I just built a Tele with a JD at the bridge and the Jazz bridge at the neck. It gets it done! I'd use a 5 way switch and a push/pull pot to split the neck bucker

Re: Tele with neck humbucker question

I use a Duncan Antiquity neck humbucker paired with a Jerry Donahue bridge pup. 250k pots with a .047 cap. This tele is my number one. Have fun, Wayne

I agree. I just use the DD because it came stock in that guitar. So, until I have so money to replace it, I'm experimenting with magnets...

Nice to know that the 250k pots works well with a full humbucker like the antiquity. Once I thought about a Seth Lover, but, lately I'm kinda stucked in the idea of getting the GFS Mean 90.

Re: Tele with neck humbucker question

Go to www.patsguitars.com. He has several Tele builds. The one you may be interested in is using a Vintage Stack in the bridge and a 59 or Antiquity HB in the neck position. Sorry I can't remember which HB it is, but if you go to the site you'll find it. There are a lot of pictures and descriptions of the materials he uses. It's worth a look, nice guitars. Good luck.

Re: Tele with neck humbucker question

I dig the APHn/STL-2T combo in my tele with a pair of 250k push/pull pots, one to split the neck, the other to tap the bridge.

Re: Tele with neck humbucker question

i think a pearly gates neck and jd bridge would be a sweet combo in a chambered tele

Re: Tele with neck humbucker question

Update on the Pat's Guitar suggestion. He uses an AntiquityHB neck and a Hot Rails bridge for one model, the other is a 59HB neck/ strat Vintage Rails middle pickup/ Vintage Stack bridge for his other offering. All the parts he uses are listed and plenty of pictures. There is alot of good information and contributors here in the forum. I'm sure you'll do well.

Re: Tele with neck humbucker question

To keep as much of the Tele in the guitar as you can I would go with a Firebird minihum & the JD.

Re: Tele with neck humbucker question

do they have mini hum adapters for bucker routs?

an antiquity firebird with the jd would be sweet
