Telecaster Build

Have a Vintage Fender Telecaster pick up in the Bridge Alnico 3, and a Seymour Duncan Hot P90 in the neck.
Have read a lot about wiring these pickups together. Just want to have my own thread and read everyones advice or tips before I continue on to the next part of the build.
So far this advice seems solid but I am trying to understand as much as possible and make the best calls.
"Replace the pots with 500K to keep the P90 happy. And to keep the bridge pickup from now sounding 'anemic', wire a 470K resistor to the terminal of the pickup selector switch where your bridge pickup is wired with the other side (tail) of the resistor to ground. This will make the bridge pickup continue to electronically 'see' a 250K (or close enough to it) pot."

Any advice is welcome with an open ready to learn mind.
Thanks
Devon

Re: Telecaster Build

Sounds pretty good to me, the electrical values and principles you are using. With that pickup combo there isn't too much I can recommend other than the standard Tele control and switching scheme.

If you want to make it intonate better you could use compensated saddles, but that's all I really have to say.

Welcome to the forum!

I have not had any success with the 500k/resistor thing in my teles. You may like it, you may not.

I say try it with 250k and standard wiring (.047 cap) and see what you think. I have this set up with two teles that have humbuckers in the neck.

Let us know if you need some help

Re: Telecaster Build

Lurking through old threads at TDPRI and TGP yielded either 470K or 270K for the 500K/resistor setup. I went with 270K since it's what Fender used in their Fat Teles. I have a broadcaster type bridge with A3s as well (8.5k). Although, I'm using a humbucker and 550k pots. I'm in the process of getting a new neck for the guitar tho. I won't be able to tell you if it works out immediately.

Re: Telecaster Build

That was another thought go with Standard wiring. Try that out and fool around from their if I am unhappy with it. Thank you.

Exactly what I was about to say! I've tried this, but I didn't like it. But, as always, the battle between good and bad is in the ears of the beholder

Re: Telecaster Build

My first thought would be to wire it up with 500k pots (to get the best possible tone from the P-90) and .022uf cap. If the bridge sounds too bright relative to the neck, just remove the neck pup from the tone pot and use the tone pot to only control tone of the bridge pup.
