Telecaster pickup help (Beginner)

American Standard Telecaster. Want to replace neck pickup with Seymour Duncan Vintage Rhythm Stack, for noise cancelling operation. That pickup has 4 wires, while existing pickup has just 2: White attached to the switch, braided wire attached to underside of volume pot. Do I just attach new white to the switch, new black to underside of volume pot? What happens to green and red wires? Do they get taped off? Eventually, will replace bridge pickup with Vintage or hot stack lead. Thanks for help.

Re: Telecaster pickup help (Beginner)

you want the black to the switch.......red and white soldered together and then taped off so they dont touch anything else.......and green and bare wire to the volume pot

the black is the "hot" wire, the red and white have to do with tapping or splitting the pickup, and the green and bare are for ground, which go to the volume pot

Thanks for the help. Assume the "black to the switch" should be where the white is presently soldered to the switch. Correct? Didn't know there was a bare wire till you mentioned one, snipped off the end of the wire coverings to locate it. Green and bare wire soldered together at the volume pot? I assume that the red and white should be soldered together and taped off at their full lengths, so that they can be used in the future, if necessary?

Re: Telecaster pickup help (Beginner)

yes you are correct....black where the present white is at the switch.....green and bare soldered together and then to the bottom of the volume pot....... im not sure about how that exact pickup is configured, but the red and white could be used to tap it or split it, which brings on more versatility....... if you wanted to use them in the future, you can get a push pull pot, or a miniswitch and you will have to solder the red and white to that to get that function

but for now, you just want to solder the red and white together and tape them off so they dont short out half of the pickup, just make sure there exposed ends are taped and cant tough anything....
