Telecaster wiring problem.

Ok so i finished wiring up the pickups Lazarus sent me. Some stock Highway One pickups. Instead of grounding the wire to the body, i did like you would with most teles and hitched it up to the bridge.

When i plugged it in i got some really bad feedback when it was in either neck or bridge position, but not very much in the middle position. I haven't strung it up yet, but this is still really bad. Anybody have any ideas on ways to shut this thing the hell up?

Thanks!

And many thanks again to Lazarus for the pickups...

Re: Telecaster wiring problem.

Normally, the grounding path for a Tele bridge is bridge plate, screws, elevator plate, pickup ground wire, pot chassis. On a modern tele, there may be no elevator plate so a wire has to be trapped between the bridge plate and the body.

The downside of trapping wires between the bridge plate and the body is that is can create an air gap between the two. This allows the bridge to resonate uncontrollably.

Another possibility is that the donated pickups are microphonic.

What are cold joints?

And i'll try the bridge thing. Lazarus said these were good pickups, so i'm taking his word on that.

Re: Telecaster wiring problem.

A cold solder joint is where the solder sits on the metal (on top of pot) and is not bonded with it. Many times cold joints will have a dull look to them and can cause problems with your wiring since it is not a good solid electrical connection.

Re: Telecaster wiring problem.

Checked for cold joints..nope...resoldered to the little hook thing and wrapped it around the bridge screw again. Could it be because i'm using springs instead of rubber tubing?
