telecaster wiring (single coil + humbucker with blender)

Hi everybody, I'm new here, writing from Italy (forgive me for my basic english)

I'm building my second telecaster
on the first one I made a classic wiring (bridge / both / neck)

on this one I would like to try a different wiring

I'm really a non-expert, hope not to say stupid things

I want to use a broadcaster single coil in the bridge position, and a PAF humbucker in the neck position
I would like to have a wiring similar to the blended wiring of the early broadcaster, but with some differences

my intent is to have this final result:

REAR POSITION - bridge pickup with volume and tone control
FRONT POSITION - neck pickup with volume and tone control
CENTER POSITION - like the following drawing (tone control converted to a blender to add the neck pickup)

Wiring Model_1.jpg

I've searched info but haven't find anything similar

as mentioned before, I'm a newbie so, in case of answer, try to be more detailed as possibile

thanks

Matteo

Welcome to the forum. (I was born in Italy.) :)

This should do it:

Make sense? :)

Artie, first let me say that you are brilliant when it comes to guitar electronics.

But in your diagram, I don't see where the bridge pup is at 100% in the center (#2) position.

Oops. Good catch. (This was pre-coffee.) Editing as we speak. :)

Edit: Fixed. I think. Doc?

Did i get it right? The Tone pot works as tone pot and as blender depending the switch position? And the tone pot should be a linear pot?

Re: telecaster wiring (single coil + humbucker with blender)

Yup. Not sure about whether log or linear works better.

I should also add that not all 3-way's are created equal. In my diagram, the 3-way "commons" are upper left, and lower right terminals.

Re: telecaster wiring (single coil + humbucker with blender)

I was wondering how this was done. Brilliant work.

Re: telecaster wiring (single coil + humbucker with blender)

I'd trade it all to know what the heck you all were saying in the "music theory" thread.

Ha! We'll hang out next time I play in Jacksonville!

thank you so much for your answer

just a few questions more

1 - I have two CTS vintage taper, 250k, both logarithmics
better to take a linear one for the tone?

2 - my switch is a GOTOH DM30. I guess it should work like the one in your diagrams, correct?

3 - the arrow with tone cap means I have to put a capacitor on the black wire? should a 0.0047 works fine?

4 - the humbucker should have 4 wires, but in your diagrams I just see two...

5 - where do I fix the ground wire?

thanks again

Not necessarily. Log should work fine. I'm going to let someone else field this question.

Nope. You bought the "oddball". It's terminals are opposite. Don't break out the soldering iron until I can redraw that.

Yes, but most people would use a .047uf. A .0047 will work, but your tone will be very subtle.

If your PAF is a Duncan, then green and bare go to ground, red & white solder together, and black goes to the switch. If it's a different brand, we need to know.

I'm not sure what you're asking here. All ground wires eventually go to the "sleeve" terminal of the output jack. Can you clarify what you're asking?

thanks again

matteo

No prob. We'll get this.

ok thanks. I'll wait the new drawing

my mistake, I have a 0.047 (just added a 0 more)

still haven't bought it
the two options are SD Seth Lover and Tonerider Alnico II

maybe I'm wrong, but in the most of wiring diagrams I see a "bridge ground wire" that shuold be linked to the rear of the bridge
just asking if I need it and if it starts from the back of the pot or from somwhere else

thanks

There definitely should be a bridge ground wire. Usually, if you loosen the bridge, you'll see a small hole where a bare wire will lay against the body, and be "pinched" by bolting down the bridge. The other end of the wire can just go to any other "ground" in the control cavity. They should all be electrically equivalent if your soldering is good.

I'll get to the new drawing as soon as I get some coffee in me. ;)

Re: telecaster wiring (single coil + humbucker with blender)

This should be correct for your switch. The "gray" terminals are the "commons".
