tell me about fasel inductors

tell me about fasel inductors....

and I just got a crybaby from hell (thanks Guitarist), what kind of inductor is in there, and what are possible mods that you've heard of?

Re: tell me about fasel inductors

I swapped out the normal CryBaby's inductor for a red fasel one - sounds pretty nice. Changed the sound to a more vintage and expressive wah, with more character and detail.

Re: tell me about fasel inductors

The more recent crybabys from hell have fasel inductors- open it up- if the inductor's red, it's fasel, if yellow it's the old type.

Re: tell me about fasel inductors

Fasel inductors are available in red and yellow types. The yellow apparently has more headroom and the red one is more 'vintage' sounding. There could have been a different inductor in the old CryBaby from Hell's though that was also yellow.

Re: tell me about fasel inductors

I Like the Red Fasel, but about the best inductor I've found now is the "Halo" from Banzai Effects in Germany....I Love the Fulltone inductor, but they are no longer available unless you buy a Fulltone wah..

Re: tell me about fasel inductors

I could never explain exactly what the Fasel does to a wah, but I can definitely say in my opinion that the wahs equipped with it sound much better than those without (I'm talking all Dunlop). Glad you're enjoying the Cry Baby From Hell brother! It's a kickass wah.

Re: tell me about fasel inductors

This is just speculation on my part, but I imagine that the inductor of a wah, (being a coil), would be impacted by all the same things that affect pickup construction. Wire gauge, number of turns, tightness of wind, core material, etc.

It might be fun to try to rewind a few and try them out.

John . . . I may be calling you later. ;)

The Fasel is around $20 and you just unsolder the old one and install the Fasel in it's place...The old inductor has 4 solder points and the Fasel has 2..
