Tell Me All You Can About The Duncan Pickup Booster

STRATDELUXER97

Stratoblaster Tone Meister
I think I'd like to have this pedal, but I'd like some specifics on how it does, what it does, and the noise factor..I'd appreciate any pros and cons before I buy one for myself...

It's painted red!!! (I think)

Re: Tell Me All You Can About The Duncan Pickup Booster

despite the fact that some have commented there's some noise, Evan claims it's a very quiet pedal ... I agree ... "discrete class A circuitry" is what the SD blurb says ... in fact, it says you can use it for a mic preamp

I made some (crappy) clips - they aren't going to sell any pedals, but you can get some idea.
Maybe I'll try redoing those.

Re: Tell Me All You Can About The Duncan Pickup Booster

Have I got a deal for you . . .

PM me your address. I'll send you mine to play with. I'll get it back from you when we get together for the Orlando guitar show in Feb. ;)

btw - I love it. Its very quiet. However, if your guitar makes noise, it amplifies it.

Re: Tell Me All You Can About The Duncan Pickup Booster

Thanks Artie, what date are yall going? are you guys just looking around or buying stuff?

Re: Tell Me All You Can About The Duncan Pickup Booster

Actually, I'm not sure. I just realized that this date has snuck up on me . . . its next weekend. I'll see if I can connect with John, and see what his plans are. I'm going to try and make it. Maybe we could hook up somewhere for lunch or something, before, or after the show.

I'm just planning on looking around. But then again . . . it depends on what I see, that I can't live without. :laugh2:

would it make a nasty amplification of 60hz hum with a strat pickup? How does it sound with a strat if you got one?

Re: Tell Me All You Can About The Duncan Pickup Booster

It's very quiet. The clean boost is very nice.
My favorite function is the res freq shift. My tele bridge really does sound like a humbucker with this function. I have a tele bg1400 pickup that sounds more like a Seth Lover with the pedal.. very cool to have that option. I like the true bypass also.

Re: Tell Me All You Can About The Duncan Pickup Booster

I've got one coming John. And also the new Duncan Tweak Fuzz. I'll check them out for a couple of weeks and then send them on to you if you're interested. I want you to try these new Duncan Noiseless single coils too. Curly's in line first though. :) Lew

This depends. If the noise problem you have is caused by a ground loop, or some other interaction with the amp circuitry, the pedal can possibly "break" that loop by virtue of being something placed in the line.

If, on the other hand, your guitar is picking up noise out of the air, and sending it down the line, the pedal will amplify it along with everything else.

In my own case, with my Strat and my Genny's single-coils, the pedal has tended to make the guitar quieter. YMMV. ;)

Re: Tell Me All You Can About The Duncan Pickup Booster

btw - I use this pedal almost exclusively, with the gain turned all the way down. I mainly use it for the resonance switch positions. They give you two extra tonal variations that are subtley different than what you can dial-in with tone controls.

RT2 mentioned the resonance switch (above) which can make single coils sound a lot fatter - pretty much like a humbucker. Is the difference subtle? I've heard from people that its quite obvious, but everyone's got their own definitions.
