Tell me I should get a set of Slash AP2s

I wasn't a huge fan of the AP1s but the specs on the new ones look tasty.

I love the '78, love the funky mid alnico 2 thing on humbuckers, in general.

It's either those, or the 57 classics. I had a friend over the other day, he had em in an SG and they really sang.

Re: Tell me I should get a set of Slash AP2s

Well, every review I've read has been very favorable. Could just be the honeymoon period, but they sound like a pretty tasty wind. I for one love the original APH's, not the bridge so much but I LOVE the neck. The new wind is hotter for both positions, so the bridge should not be as thin sounding as I found the original to be, although I could have lived with it. The hotter neck might make the neck just a bit more articulate and slightly less smooth, which wouldn't be a bad thing either IMO.

From the sound of things, they are kind of like getting a custom shop wind at a production price.....so I would pull the trigger on a set if I had a guitar to put them in. If you really like the whole A2 thing, you could do a whole lot worse, IMO.

I have 2 sets of them in 2 Leslie Paulas... and I Love them. If you're going for a Slash sound, these will def. put you in the ball park, but also they work great for everything else!

Re: Tell me I should get a set of Slash AP2s

I have two sets as well and they are my favorite pickup of all time . My purchase had nothing to do with slash or his sound I wanted the original set at first but the shop didn't have em so I settled for these . Glad I did as they give me the tone I had been searching for. They do cleans very well and I can get blues on up to very heavy sounds out of them.

Re: Tell me I should get a set of Slash AP2s

They are the perfect pickup for a Les Paul period! I put a set in my 1990 standard & it has made me fall in love with this guitar all over again. Great pickups.

Re: Tell me I should get a set of Slash AP2s

I'm not so sure I'd jump at that. I don't know what guitar you're putting the Slash pups in, but I tend to think these artist pickups like the Frankenstein pup and the Slash are hit-or-miss in most guitars that don't spec up with the guitar its intended for. The AP2Slash is designed to make a generic Les Paul sound like his original shadow-built copy from the A4D record. As far as what it will sound like in your guitar, It could be just another A2 PAF-type pickup and it might sound really good, but for the extra money you pay to have Slash's name on a pickup, I wouldn't mess with it unless I was playing in a GNR tribute band or something. If you didn't like the A2P stock (which is what Slash used in his actual guitar), what makes you think the Slash pups will sounds better?

Slash's sound comes from his hands! Anyone of us could pickup his guitar and plug into his amp and we would sound like.....well Us! Its just a small part of the equation.

Im VERY tempted too. I LOVE the orig AIIP in the neck pos, but the bridge was too weak for my liking.. Im nervous about buying these for fear it still may not be enough.. But I keep hearing great things.. I dig slash, but dont wanna cop his tone per se.. I like how they can be so sweet and creamy and yet rock too.

Ok I'll tell ya. . .get a set of Slash AP2's! Got a set and absolutely love 'em!

Re: Tell me I should get a set of Slash AP2s

I will say this much getting a pair of thesre will not make you sound like slash at all. I was never really a GNR fan and don't get me wrong slash is a great player but buying these pickups didn't make me sound more slashy. You could get close to his tone with these if that's what your going for but overall there just a great sounding pickup. A slightly hotter take on the alnico2 pros which are great also. I put a pair in my gibson explorer and they are the most musical pups I've played. The neck pup is warm and buttery but clear at the same time and the birdge is not thin at all smooth and ballsy when you need it.

Anyone try these in an SG with a ebony board?
