Tempting at this price?

Re: Tempting at this price?

thats five hundred pounds english?

uhmmm

whats that in dollars?

sounds like a lot for a little either way

Re: Tempting at this price?

Are you asking about outright quality or just value for money? Some Ashdown products have had reliability issues. I often finding myself having nagging doubts about Ashdown that I never have about tc electronic or the Fender Rumble range.

I think that you could do better for your money.

Re: Tempting at this price?

That's clearly far more sensible for my purposes - it's like a posh version of the Cube I have out here. The stack thing just happens to appeal to my inner rock god - there's zero chance of it fitting in my Puma though...

Re: Tempting at this price?

I used to own a Ford Puma. (My brother now has it.) Cramming a bass guitar case inside it was always challenging.

The same "free second cabinet" BH series deal appears on tc electronics' own website. This says to me that the product line is about to be discontinued.

For gigs in pubs and medium-sized halls, the bg250 alone is enough. For larger venues, you might want a louder amp or to run a Line Out feed to a public address system.

I've been listening to a few demos on YT of the bg250 - not exactly audition quality, but it does sounds a good amp that very flexible with its eq structure. The Toneprint part adds a nice bit of icing on the top.

Re: Tempting at this price?

The only real test for any of these candidate amplifiers is to plug into one and play.

The things that I especially like about the tc RH amp series are the built-in multi-band compression and Tube Tone for subtle overdrive. On the top models, the DI and Line Out possibilities are utterly professional.

The Staccato '51 model, in particular, aims for an Ampeg vibe. Why not check out actual Ampeg products? Mark Bass is another good maker.

Re: Tempting at this price?

Did you buy anything or is this thread the bass amp equivalent of Icemanning?

Re: Tempting at this price?

Not yet, but I will be in the UK in a couple of weeks time and am planning to go do an audition or two.

Re: Tempting at this price?

Did you stretch to the three-way remote footswitch?

The only details on the bg250 that put me off are its lack of a send/return loop, lack of an extension loudspeaker socket and having to choose between compression or modulation for the Tone Print effect.

Re: Tempting at this price?

No 3-way, but then again, I'm back out of here tomorrow, so it'll do till I'm next back. The rest I'm pretty sure I can live with for now.
