i was looking at the MXR M-108 Ten Band Graphic EQ today
i think it is a bit expensive but maybe its just what i need for my tone
i need a little more gain out of my distortion and some more control
over the shape.

whats ur experiences with EQ pedals
can these things really take ur sound to the next level

Re: Ten Band Graphic EQ

I don't use one, but some people swear by them. They can give you a nice boost in whatever frequencies you need a boost in, and the MXR one can boost the level too, so you can do a nice solo boost if you want. Just remember that a good EQ can never make a bad amp sound great.

Re: Ten Band Graphic EQ

I have a BOSS 7 band. I probably should have gone with the MXR 10 band but shoulda woulda coulda..

Anyway, I love the thing! A Duncan Distortion with the tone rolled back while having the bass pushed and the amp set juuuuust right is the best tone I've ever found! A Custom with the same settings sounds like the greatest PAF pickup equipped guitar ever! (but it comes from a BC Rich NT Beast)

I think an EQ should be something that everyone should consider when wanting to improve their tone. An EQ with SD pickups is simply a dream

I also have the MXR 10 band eq. Great pedal, lots of flexibility. I used to use the Boss GE7, but mine made alot of noise. The MXR is quiet and the level and gain controls are very useful.

The only drawback is you must use the included power supply/wall wart. Batteries are not an option.

true bypass makes a ton of difference, why I originally wanted the MXR but my multi has a built in gate so it's not that much of a problem

Re: Ten Band Graphic EQ

I had a Boss GE-7... i sold it after just a week. Had a horrible, horrible digital tone coloration, which was especially noticed when bypassed.

Re: Ten Band Graphic EQ

I have a Boss 10-band EQ. An EQ pedal can do amazing things for any instrument rig.

Re: Ten Band Graphic EQ

After going thorough several other eq'a, I decided to try the mxr 10 band eq. This eq is my favorite of the eq pedals [ boss, mxr 6 band, dan electro] I've owned. It has low noise and a great deal of adjustment range.

This eq [or any eq] can be very effective and give very different results depending upon where if it is placed in front of the amp or in the loop. It can shape the od or give an overal eq to the amp.

The keyword phrase is: experiment and listen.

Re: Ten Band Graphic EQ

I use the new MXR on my acoustic pedal board--I also have a bunch of the old MXR blue 10-bands in a box somewhere.

They are a handy tool to have around. But, don't make the mistake of thinking that they can clean up a pickup, or turn a single coil into a humbucker.
