Ten Commandments Of Bass

Re: Ten Commandments Of Bass

Its getting close to time to call it a night - I caw the Subject line and thought -

Hmmm - The Ten Condiments of Bass - What's dried up and stuck between the windings. :D

#3 is impossible and #5 was written by someone who never played in a keyboard-based band.

Actually #3 isn't that hard. I finished up a run (30 shows) with a drummer that was a "Russian Dragon." Depending on the song, he was either rushin' or draggin'.

*insert rimshot here*

And every single time, it fell on me to "right the ship" and keep him in line. It comes down to laying really far back on the beat when he's getting excited, or playing ahead when the tempo drags. And if everyone else that you're playing with is following you, then keeping a drummer with tempo issues in check really isn't that tough.

As for the initial post, it's cute. Stereotypical, but meant in fun.

I would actually like to know the Ten Condiments of Bass, and I hope that Blue Cheese is on that list.

Re: Ten Commandments Of Bass

On sundays, I play at a church.

I usually play guitar but sometimes the bassist for the group is unavailable and I will play bass as opposed to lead guitar.

The drummer does not play to a click track like the drummer in my band does, as a result sometimes the tempo will vary and I have to keep time with bass.

Steady quarter or eighth notes will usually do it.

It's funny, I read this post a little while back and then had to play bass yesterday and tried out some whole notes... it was interesting. It creates space.
