Tex Mex Tele Pickups

Anyone have any experience with these pickups? I hear good and bad things about them. I will probably swap them out when I get the Tele I am after but if they are ok or useable I won't swap right away.

Thanks Bros!!!

there is almost never a reason to swap pups out right when you get an instrument. see what you like and what you dont? get to know what it sounds like acoustically so you can buy pups that will complent it. they arent my favorite but let your ears decide what you should do

That's some great advice. I bought a Squier CV Tele with the intention of swapping out the pu's. In fact I had already picked out a replacement set (Fralin Blues Special's) but changed my mind after two gigs with the stock unit's. I might still change them at some point, but only becasuse I can't leave well enough alone.

I thought I'd have to swap out the "hot alnico III's" that came in my tele before I even got it. I'm definitely waiting it out to see if I get tired of these. So far, so good!
Fender's production stuff is not so bad, IMO. Loved the CS nocasters

Re: Tex Mex Tele Pickups

When I bought my Nashville Tele, I was quite satisified with the Tex Mex stock pickups. Then I decided to see what the neck pup sounded like uncovered . . . long story short, I clumsily RUINED the pickup, and wound up trying a Bill Lawrence Keystone to replace it . . . Well, it wasn't in the guitar five minutes when I knew I would be replacing the whole set with Keystones. I did, and they will never come out of that guitar. Took it to another level, plain and simple. Like taking a clothespin off a singer's nose.

Bottom line: the Mex's are adequate, quality pickups. But there are others out there at less than "boutique" prices (Lawrence, Duncan, DiMarzio, Fender custom shop) that will keep you up playing even LATER.
