That magic woody "hollow" humbucker PAF tone

We're all looking for "that tone". I know that some early ZZ Top ( Deguello ) maybe the outro to Cheap Sunglasses maybe on his Pearly Gates Les Paul is kinda close to what I'm looking for. Second would be the effects used for eg Edge of Seventeen Stevie Nicks. It's a kind of woody hollow sound I'm looking for, but it especially sounds "hollow" to me. It will no doubt be a Les Paul and humbuckers, but if you think you can get me there with single coils I'll hear you out. I have tried Antiquities, and Pearly Gates, and Alnico IIs and theyre all great pups but I'm not there yet. I'm not selling mine. Neck or bridge or middle settings. What EQ settings will get me close. Amps ? I have a Marshall JTM45 and a lot of other cool stuff. Am I nuts ? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks !!

Fishman Fluence Classic humbucker, neck/Rhythm position, Voice 2.

WLH and '59 will get you closer to that tone.

These will do it, but that sound has a lot to do with recording, too. But you gotta start with a great pickup in a great guitar. I like Seths, but I have had a lot of luck with 59s and even Alnico II Pros as well.

Did you try Pearly Gates with nickel covers? Makes a bigger difference than you might think and Billy Gibbons uses nickel covers on the Pearly Gates pickups. Billy also left the covers on his famous '59 Les Paul Pearly Gates.

Using them uncovered makes for a cool sound too but it's different. Brighter. More presence. More sizzle if you will.

In this video Paul Rose captures the tone of the Pearlys with nickel covers. I get a tone much like this from my nickel covered Pearlys in my PRS Singlecut.

I have a Shecter, set neck 24 frets, mahogany string through body. It has a 59n in the neck that I recently put an A4 magnet into. It will get you there.

what speakers are you running?
You should be able to get some wicked zz top style sounds with a les paul, pearlies and a JTM.
The only thing that i can imagine to be missing is speakers.
Greenbacks have always struck me as being very "woody" sounding.
Failing that, you might want to have a look a a real loose sounding tweed fender amp like a 5e3 deluxe.
....and possibly a coin as a pick, although i know that currently he is using a custom pick from V-picks with a textured edge.

the brown deluxe is more zz than the tweed but harder to find. putting a 5v4 recto tube in the 5e3 will push it more toward that tone

Fishman Fluence Classic humbucker, neck/Rhythm position, Voice 2.

I have to admit, I flipped the wires because the 2nd voice was more to my liking. It might be a "Fishman Voice" but I hear some classic meets modern elements that sit in a mix really well.
