The 2 ways to wire an humbucker

Hello all.
I'm thinking about the 2 ways of soldering a SD humbucker.

There is the common and standard:

Black->Hot output
White+Red->To let the series begin ;)
Green->Ground

and then this, but I'm not sure for the hot output wire:

Red->Hot output
Black+Green->Same as above
White->Ground

Is the 2nd case right?With the standard method u put the North start as output and south start @ gruond.
If the concept is same for the 2nd method, I'd have to wire the red to ground and the white to output (because they're respectivly North finish and South finish).
Thx in advance to the one who'll clarify this topic : party:

Re: The 2 ways to wire an humbucker

Polarity and wires Seymour Duncan:
- Screw slug begin->end: Green->Red (South)
- Coil slug begin->end: Black->White (North)

So your two schemes above translate to:
1:
- ground
-> beginning of the screw coil
-> end of the screw coil
-> end of the slug coil
-> beginning of the slug coil
-> hot

2:
- ground
-> end of the slug coil
-> beginning of the slug coil
-> beginning of the scew coil
-> end of the screw coil
-> hot

So both of your schemes are equivalent. You reversed the order of the coils, the slug coil come first in one solution, second in the other, but that has no impact on sound.

Just to clarify...
What if (let's say) I'm talking about a neck pickup (magnets positions are):
S
N
and I want to use the second scheme.
Should I use it just like you said:

- ground
-> end of the slug coil
-> beginning of the slug coil
-> beginning of the scew coil
-> end of the screw coil
-> hot

or this way?

- ground
-> end of the screw coil
-> beginning of the slug coil
-> beginning of the scew coil
-> end of the slug coil
-> hot

Within a pickup, it doesn't matter which coil comes first, the current goes through both anyway.

You second way in the last posting would reverse the whole pickup so that if you use both pickups combined you would be out of phase.

Re: The 2 ways to wire an humbucker

The advantage to the second way you listed for wiring (red/hot, white/ground) is that in coil-cut mode, the slug coil would be active in the bridge PU, which has a warmer & louder sound by itself than the screw coil does.

You can even go one step farther. Wire it as the neck pup shown here, and flip the magnet. Now, when you short the green/black of the neck to ground, with the red/white of the bridge to ground, you get both stud coils in-pase and noise-cancelling.

Use an on-off-on switch and you can select inner or outer coils and it always remains in-phase and noise cancelling in all three positions.

So . . . I guess there's 4 ways to wire a humbucker that stay in-phase and noise cancelling:
