The 42 best overdrive, distortion and fuzz pedals of all time

Re: The 42 best overdrive, distortion and fuzz pedals of all time

Lists like this are effective at doing this very thing -- creating debate! That is why the exist, to get people talking!

I like lists like this: I found a couple of things I've not heard of, but look interesting. I don't know if I've even tried more than 42 overdrives in the span of my life so far, but the criteria seems to be a little loose on this list as to what qualifies, so I'm guessing the same holds true with whoever compiled it.

Dallas Rangemaster reish looks quite tempting ...

Whaaaat? BOSS Metal Zone isn't number one?

I don't know man, the BOSS DS-1 sounds really t*ts on a turned-up old-school Marshall.

Dist down/off, Level up

I certainly wouldn't use it as the sole source of gain.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great pedal for what it is & what it costs but Jezz.....

Last time I was at Guitar Center across from Berklee they had piles of DS-1s used for about $19 a pop. Seeing the patron saint of Berklee guitar Steve Vai used one I do not think there is a guitar player in the building that doesn't own that pedal.

Re: The 42 best overdrive, distortion and fuzz pedals of all time

There are very few Fuzz/OD pedals that "SUCK" . -it's not hard to make a good one, not difficult to make a great one, and not impossible to make an incredible one.

almost every one I've ever tried (thats 100s of them) can be paired and dialed in with certain pickups, other pedals, certain kinds of pres, amps, and speakers to make great sounds.

so anytime somebody says something sucks or is meh, I suggest they don't own the optimal complimentary gear for it or haven't tried it's best application yet

Young GuitarStv walked into a music store, plugged in a DS-1, cranked it up, and then proceeded to hear terribly sucky guitar playing for a few minutes. Obviously the problem was the ****ty boss pedal. A couple minutes later he heard fantastic guitar tone coming from the same guitar, amp, and DS-1 that someone much better was playing.

:P

Hahaaha. Truth.

I used to hate my first 335 until a now very well known player borrowed it after his broke 2 strings mid show and he made it instantly sound jawdropping amazing ....he had secretly snuck a magical special pedal into the chain....called "his fingers" ..

Or maybe it was the "not my fingers" pedal... cant recall
