Not my cup of tea TBH but I can understand how some would dig it.

Can't say I'd be thrilled but it wouldn't really stop me from getting one if I liked everything else about it

2014: Ibanez does Schecter-style abalone binding.

2015: TGP users believe they can hear the difference between different amounts of abalone binding. An abalone modding craze begins.

Ibanez did Abalone on the SZ series from 2004-2007. The headstock has it as well.

A lot of those double-cutaway guitars from Schecter and LTD would have looked so cool if they just took out that crazy all-around-abalone-binding.

I think you missed a point in your scenario. Due to over harvesting in 2017 Abalone is declared extinct.
