The AxeFx Ultra with the Atomic MB-50 Tube Poweramp (Review/Pics/Vid)

Hey guys!

So i am trying out this cool little tube mono block poweramp that Atomic makes. It is powered by 2 6L6's and is 50 watts. I am using it with my Axefx currently through my Diezel RL cab (the only cab i have at my apt) and man this setup sounds RIDICULOUS!

I think i am going to ditch my Engl rig for this kind of setup. Honestly i cant believe so little gear can make so much sound. Though since im on tour a lot, i might look into a rackmount poweramp version of this for that purpose, but for jamming at home or an easy way to power your axefx at a small gig, this sounds pretty ****ing awesome. Like i can dial in a sound similar to my Engl, but then dial in 1000 other presets, and there is something about playing the Axefx through a tube amp and cab that just feels so right! This thing really packs a punch too, it gets LOUD! The best part about it is it weighs 15lbs!! All you guys who have stereo poweramps out there know how much those things weigh, but apparently this has some different kind of transformers that weigh a lot less than the conventional ones. This is like the perfect little poweramp to bring around.
Also, though im not 100% on this, but it seems to be Dual Voltage as well!!

Here is a video of Jake and I testing it out.

And here are some pics of the MB-50:

Nice video man - I can dig it.

Any plans to use it live?

looks neat. when I think block and power, I think crate, and I didn't care for the powerblock sound much, but this would appear to be more of a straight tube power amp. wonder what just a distortion pedal would sound like as a "preamp" into it.

Nice! Thanks for sharing.

I am really thinking about getting an active monitor for my AxeFX, but this made me think twice..

That is ultra cool... Borrowed my friends axefx standard and it was the sweetest piece of gear I have ever played. And btw... Your music rocks guys!!!

I replaced a very expensive rig with the axe-fx, as did most of the rabid users. Go to the fractal forum and you'll find gazillions of folks who were converted from big racks as well as very high-end amps. I've unloaded most of my other amps. I'll always have one sweet little tube amp around but the axe is the most significant piece of equipment to hit the scene in ages. Nothing comes close, it can do virtually anything. You just have to be patient and learn how to tweak it.

I had an Atomic Reactor 112 a few years ago and it did indeed rock. I ran my ADA MP-1 through it and it sounded far better than running it through the poweramp of my RocPro1000 head.

Also made older rack stuff like the Digitech 21 Legend sound spectacular.

My only gripe was the amp didn't have a Master Volume (but it did come with all the different modeler trays, whereas later they were sold separately for $100 each).

Might look into the poweramp as I've been missing that amp.

they should make it fit in the rack with the axefx! one rack space would be ideal if they could fit it with the tube or whatnotz
