The Beatles: "yesterday" cover

Re: The Beatles: "yesterday" cover

I like ... one of my favorites. What kind of acoustic steel string? How recorded?

Re: The Beatles: "yesterday" cover

LOL, if onlt it was a good acoustic put it that way, its a cheap £50 one thats about $100. Its a made in china Fender, its crap but its all i got for now. I played on some taylors and martins down in London not long ago and man they sounded incredible.

I recorded it through a sennheiser e835 mic, wrong mic for the job but all ive got. To get it into cubase I used my pod x3 on an acoustic pre-amp setting.

And thats how it was done, lol. very cheaply

Re: The Beatles: "yesterday" cover

Hey, I don't care if that's a cheap-o acoustic or a $2,500 Taylor -- I think the tone is gorgeous. I think you spank the notes a too strongly, particularly on the bass, but that's just a personal preference thing.

I'd love to hear more of your stuff!

Re: The Beatles: "yesterday" cover

I always like to ask about recording acoustic guitars. I think it's a tough thing to do.

On my soundclick website, I have recorded an old Greg Allman tune "Come & Go Blues". I did it with a good guitar (Takamine) but with a Shure 57 and a Shure 58 ... difficult to do with big mics. Someday, I'm going to get a couple of proper mics for that process.

Re: The Beatles: "yesterday" cover

I know what you mean about the notes being boomy, but that is a result of the recording process, in reality it doesnt sound like that. The mic seemed to pick up on the resonance of the a string and made it boomy. I tried to EQ it out but by taking away that frequency it killed it and took the life out of it. So I just left it as is.

I agree with that. I like it, although I'd prefer it to be a bit faster, with less note spanking!
I also wonder if the low E string is slightly out of tune.....?

Re: The Beatles: "yesterday" cover

I originally played it faster but i didnt like it fast. I thought the mellowed down slower approach suited it more.
